SMIVEY, I’m pretty sure that is a “Next” brand bike that is sold at Wal-Mart.
I don’t know if it’s one of them, but I heard that sometimes people donate bikes and paint them gold and place them around cities in remembrance of bike riders that have been killed. I think I heard they were in NYC, but again, not sure if it’s true. Just saying, it may be a legit remembrance bike. Who knows though!

I’ve seen ghost bikes that are not just plain white, but also solid yellow and blue. I don’t know if they’re ghost bikes but maybe it’s like, a livestrong bike or some other awareness cause. So this may be something like that. But then again, the seat is covered in plastic and it looks like the paint has rubbed off on the handlebars and the part of the tire that touches the ground; all indications that this is actually someone’s mode of transportation.

Notice the horizontal frame shock under the seat post and the articulation hinge by the crank. The frame wasn’t cut, this it a fairly expensive mountain bike designed to take hard hits on trails. Gotta laugh at whoever thought the gold “bling” paint would disguise it.

TO EVERYONE WONDERING ABOUT THE BIKE:
That’s not an expensive bike, it’s a “Next” brand bike sold at Wal-Mart for under a hundred bucks. The plastic bag over the seat is to keep the seat’s padding from absorbing water. And that gap in the bike’s frame was designed that way to accommodate for the extra shock absorbers.

Nobody cut it under the seat. It’s a dual suspension bike. They don’t have a full downtube ‘cos the entire rear end moves.
also, it’s an incedibly low quality bike and probably barely works with all that paint jamming everything up.

I actually think I have a valid explanation for this one… In many cities, especially larger ones… there is an organization that places gold/bronze bikes at cites where people, especially children have been killed while riding a bicycle… food for thought
cash for gold buys a variety of articles, and because we employ professional estate buyers, you can be sure that you are getting a great value for your unwanted jewelry and other estate pieces.

Does anyone else see that part of the bike is missing, right below the seat? must have sold part of his bike for something.
September 5th, 2009
I think in Texas they call that a rattle can rebuild.
September 5th, 2009
Probably had a little gold spray paint left over from a huffing session.
September 5th, 2009
Could just be a ghost bike.
September 5th, 2009
I believe this is in College Station. I’ve seen that bike around campus. Haven’t seen the rider yet. Can the poster confirm?
September 5th, 2009
Must be a paint sniffer! Can exploded!
September 5th, 2009
Maybe this belongs to mudd butt guy…
September 5th, 2009
What is he trying to protect the seat from? Overspray from the cheap gold paint?
September 5th, 2009
Crazy thing is…it was green when he went INTO the store…
September 5th, 2009
they sell that bike at Walmart for $75 (power x brand)- and theyre normally silver and maroon….bought 2 myself…i didnt class mine up like the one in the photo though, lol…
September 5th, 2009
Must be inside buying some of that fantabulous Walmart bling to match.
September 5th, 2009
SMIVEY, I’m pretty sure that is a “Next” brand bike that is sold at Wal-Mart.

September 6th, 2009
I don’t know if it’s one of them, but I heard that sometimes people donate bikes and paint them gold and place them around cities in remembrance of bike riders that have been killed. I think I heard they were in NYC, but again, not sure if it’s true. Just saying, it may be a legit remembrance bike. Who knows though!
September 6th, 2009
Gangsta!!
September 6th, 2009
a couple of things… 1) why does it look like it was painted really badly and only the front/middle is ok, and 2) why does the seat have a plastic bag on it?
September 6th, 2009
Cash for Gold? Or is it Cash for Clunkers?
September 6th, 2009
Gotta keep your butt dry!
September 6th, 2009
Lose the lock. Nobody is gonna steal it.
September 7th, 2009
Is this in Austin cuz I swear I saw this bike on the UT campus a few days ago.
September 7th, 2009
Maybe it’s stolen to begin with, so he painted it gold to disguise it, assuming that he already had scratched off the serial numbers. There are always a lot of badly painted bikes at Sheriff’s auctions.
September 7th, 2009
I believe only Johnny Depp can ride this bike and still look totally cool with it.
September 7th, 2009
Ghost Bikes are white, and usally placed near train tracks, where someone on a bike was hit and killed by a train.
September 7th, 2009
I know that bike! My friend painted it all gold as theft-prevention on a college campus. It’s been around for the last 6 years, so it seems to have worked.
September 7th, 2009
That bike was at the one off of 30 in garland cuz I saw as I walked in and wondered who in the hell drove this up here
September 8th, 2009
I’ve seen ghost bikes that are not just plain white, but also solid yellow and blue. I don’t know if they’re ghost bikes but maybe it’s like, a livestrong bike or some other awareness cause. So this may be something like that. But then again, the seat is covered in plastic and it looks like the paint has rubbed off on the handlebars and the part of the tire that touches the ground; all indications that this is actually someone’s mode of transportation.
September 8th, 2009
did anyone notice the bike has already been cut, under the seat… so that tells me i KNOW it has been stolen and painted gold. the frame was cut under the seat where a chain had been before. this is hillarious!
September 8th, 2009
Notice the horizontal frame shock under the seat post and the articulation hinge by the crank. The frame wasn’t cut, this it a fairly expensive mountain bike designed to take hard hits on trails. Gotta laugh at whoever thought the gold “bling” paint would disguise it.
September 9th, 2009
I think this bike belongs to the guy in a previous photo who has the dirty shorts. It is gold paint from the seat not what you think it is.
September 9th, 2009
TO EVERYONE WONDERING ABOUT THE BIKE:
That’s not an expensive bike, it’s a “Next” brand bike sold at Wal-Mart for under a hundred bucks. The plastic bag over the seat is to keep the seat’s padding from absorbing water. And that gap in the bike’s frame was designed that way to accommodate for the extra shock absorbers.
September 9th, 2009
Hey Look. It’s what Oscar rides to the Oscars!
September 10th, 2009
ok u spray painted a BMX bike that probley cost like crap!
and u r worried about the seat and coverd it up with a stupid plastic
bag idiot!!!
u r retarted!!!
September 10th, 2009
Thought it was a legit ghost bike until I saw the minor details, plus normal biking populace wouldn’t ride a BMX, and yeah totally stolen!
September 11th, 2009
DUH!!! don’t you know what this is? its a bait bike for rednecks. the cops paint it gold so it looks like it is worth a lot of money.
September 12th, 2009
I think that might be painted and chained there for a memorial for someone. They do this in my town, paint bikes gold or white, for people who have been killed in bicycle accidents and put them up at the place of their death.
September 13th, 2009
There is an all gold bike just like this one outside of the walmart in jupiter, florida
September 15th, 2009
My GT…can someone enhance the picture and get the serial number? I think that is my stolen GT. It does look pretty sharp in the gold.
September 16th, 2009
Nobody cut it under the seat. It’s a dual suspension bike. They don’t have a full downtube ‘cos the entire rear end moves.
also, it’s an incedibly low quality bike and probably barely works with all that paint jamming everything up.
September 16th, 2009
THIS BIK IS AWESOME!!! A COUPLE OF THINGS NO ITS NOT CUT UNDER THE SEAT THAT HOW IT WAS MADE TWO THE BAG IS ON THE SEAT SO THAT IT DOESNT GET WET AND NO IT NOT A GHOST BIKE SOMEONE RIDES IT AND NO GHOST BIKE ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE NOT JUST BY RAILROADS PEOPLE GET HIT BY CARS TOO
September 16th, 2009
I actually think I have a valid explanation for this one… In many cities, especially larger ones… there is an organization that places gold/bronze bikes at cites where people, especially children have been killed while riding a bicycle… food for thought
September 18th, 2009
cash for gold buys a variety of articles, and because we employ professional estate buyers, you can be sure that you are getting a great value for your unwanted jewelry and other estate pieces.
September 18th, 2009
I put a bag on my bicycle too, sometimes. When it rains, some seats absorb water. Then when you sit on them, it squeezes out like a sponge.
September 18th, 2009
That’s my Gold Sledghammah Baby!!!!
I think it belongs to the guy who was huffing the gold paint.
September 20th, 2009

September 21st, 2009
GOLDFINGER LIVES !!!!!!
September 21st, 2009
THIS IS A GHOST BIKE IN HONOR OF WHOEVER WAS KILLED AT THAT LOCATION. Most of you people are very ignorant, racist, and probably support walmart.
September 22nd, 2009
This is not a ghost bike, ghost bikes are painted all white. And I know whos bike this is! Its a guy at A&M Galveston and im pretty sure he stole it from my friend!
September 22nd, 2009
Omg… this was my co-workers bike… he spray painted it!!! I am a Wal-Mart associate & he used to ride that thing everywhere… unfortunately he no longer works there & took his gold bike with him!!!
September 22nd, 2009

September 23rd, 2009
“SMIVEY”
“That’s a pretty expensive bike to be doing that. Must have been stolen. ”
Are you kidding , those bikes are like $250 new , about $70 second hand
September 24th, 2009
M.C. Hammer’s bike
September 27th, 2009
This is why the guy in another picture has gold paint all over him; especially around his nostrils. He just didn’t know that he was supposed to point the can away from himself. lol jk
September 28th, 2009
I like how they didn’t even bother taping it off. Spray paint at it’s finest!
September 28th, 2009
That’s not a plastic bag, that’s a seat condom.
September 30th, 2009
unless you saw the person actually lock or unlock this bike. it could be a memorial. of someone who has died in an accident there.
October 2nd, 2009
Is it a Huffy???
October 4th, 2009
Seriously, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that bike on campus at A&M in College Station. Does anyone know where exactly this picture was taken??
October 4th, 2009
American ingenuity at it’s best, ride your sweet ass gold bike……..while huffing until your brain explodes……
October 5th, 2009
Hey! Who stole T.O.’s bike?
October 7th, 2009
that’s alot of krylon! it cost 99 cents to paint that whole bike
October 7th, 2009
I’m glad they were careful to cover the seat to prevent overspray
October 7th, 2009
This Bike is in NYC and it is tied up next to the pole where the Bike Messenger got hit by the car!! Sad but True!!! Also since I have found this site I find my self scheduling “Huntin” trips to walmart in search of these great people!!
