Here is what I don’t know: What the hell that thing is and what it’s doing there. Here is what I do know: It doesn’t belong in public, and if this big rat’s name is anything but Master Splinter then the owner should be put down inhumanely.

That is my pet capybara, Caplin Rous. He weighs 100 lbs and is very sweet but he has never been to Walmart. This photo appears to have been taken at PetsMart last weekend. Please check out his blog if you want to learn more about capybaras.

Yes, it is a capybara. South American. Bill Peet wrote a kids book about one ages ago, called Capyboppy. They don’t make great pets, but as long as it (dunno if a he or a she) is taken care of, that’s good. In Walmart, not so much. I would have a fit if I saw any animal, pet or not, in my local food store. However, I guess here it’s not much of a stretch.

uuuhh, i don’t think anyone’s mentioned this, but I’m about 100% sure that this picture was taken inside of a PETSMART. Look at the tile pattern. Walmart doesn’t do that, but Petsmart does. And Petsmart uses dark gray shelving units like the one in the background….

This it a carpincho (or capibara, chigüiro or chigüire). Is the biggest rodent in the world, and lives in the humids of South America. Is a creature in exctinction danger. Is a very nice a calm rodent, but is illegal to have one as a pet.

I know the couple that own’s this capibara, and the it’s name is Caplin. He has been neutered so he doesn’t get tempermental. He has his own kiddie pool too
The couples’ children gave it to them, but I don’t know the whole story.

Capybara’s are beautiful and wonderful creatures.
They are not an endangered or even threatened species as someone tried to claim.
