Doggy’s Day Off
Listen, I’m all for service dogs, but I think it’s pretty obvious he was trying to enjoy just 1 day off! He had on his big comfy hoodie and slippers and just wanted to lay around all day and watch Animal Planet. But NO, you just had to drag him out of the house!

Ok…sorry, but that is just cute. Seriously. I am not one for putting your pets in costume, but keeping them warm is sweet….I know, I sound like a sucker…so everyone!
January 25th, 2011
Maybe it’s just really, REALLY cold out? (Although she could have picked something more flattering!)
January 25th, 2011
and to walkmart of all places i hope he at least got a bone
January 25th, 2011
Although they do look silly, they prevent salt from getting into their paws during the winter months.
January 25th, 2011
Who knew part of the process to be a service animal is taking away the dog’s pride?
January 25th, 2011
My favorite picture you have ever posted. Nothing nasty or disgusting in that pic!
January 25th, 2011
I would rather see dogs in that store than most of the people. Dog is dressed better, cleaner, better mannered and probably smells better.
January 25th, 2011
The outfit is pretty cute, but the dog looks kind of sad. (Why me? he seems to be thinking)
January 25th, 2011
I think this is a working dog. Like a guide dog or something. And even if it isn’t all dogs love to “go” with their families regardless of weather or time of day or what they are wearing.
January 25th, 2011
Why is this photo here? It’s obvious that this is a service dog, and the woman deserves applause for taking steps to protect her dog’s fee from snow, ice and salt.
January 25th, 2011
That dog dresses better than most people I have seen on here!!! Cutest boots ever!
January 25th, 2011
Kudos to her for taking care of her doggies feet and not letting salt get in between his toes. Salt can cut their feet and cause them pain. Yes it looks silly, but serves a wonderfull purpose. Nice to know that she loves her doggie and takes care of it, unlike so many other pet owners on this planet!!
January 25th, 2011
I don’t have a service dog; but we know this is one; and not those “pocketbook pooches” we see so often! Only a loving pet owner would see to it that the pup’s paws are warm and safe – salt does damage to their paws! A very heart-warming picture for once!
January 25th, 2011
I am trying to figure out why this is here? This is not some random 300 lb moron with a shirt on that fits a 100 lb pre teen! This is a service dog! And good for that woman for taking care of that dog’s paws. Salt and ice are damaging to a dog’s paws. And as for the hoodie? Boxers are very short haired dogs. They do NOT handle cold well. I put a sweater on my bulldog for the same reason when he is out with me. So unless this picture was put on this site to show other pet owners HOW TO take care of their animals, and give this person praise for doing so, I dont really see the point. And I for sure dont see the point in this being put on here to be made fun of. Nothing about this picture is amusing. Sweet, yes… funny? nowhere close!
January 25th, 2011
Thats just ridiculous… Next time my Pit is comin in with me… WTF. This is by a food cooler… Noone stopped her??
January 25th, 2011
with the white cane my guess is she’s blind. that dog can’t help her read those cheese packets…where the f*** is a walmart employee? superior service my a**! that being said, i wish my dog was so obedient. she flopped around chewed at the boots until they came off!
January 25th, 2011
Glad to see someone taking care of their service dog… here is AZ I hate to see them with their hot paws on the concrete… they need booties!
January 25th, 2011
My goodness you guys. This site isn’t just about the evil creatures that grace our Walmart isles, it’s anything odd you see at Walmart. Ya, the dog is cute and no one is saying it’s wrong or disgusting or shocking, it’s just kinda cute/ funny. The hoodie and booties serve a purpose but it’s still amusing to look at. You guys are just cannibals waiting for your next kill.
January 25th, 2011
For crying out loud again, people!!! Nowhere in the caption does it state this person is being made fun of. The pic is on here because it’s funny. Not funny as in haha this person is disabled funny, but if you walked past this dog in the store, you WOULD chuckle. It’s cute and silly-looking. I totally get WHY the dog is dressed as it is and that’s awesome the owner is taking such great care to protect the dog out in the cold. QUIT TAKING THINGS SO LITERAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 25th, 2011
Looks like even this dog feels obligated to wear the stuff he got at Christmas.
January 25th, 2011
Goggie kneads kozy kote and shews aifinkso. Itz cold hear in meeshagin!
January 25th, 2011
It’s a picture from Michigan where it gets so cold that even HELL freezes over. (Look it up there is a town in Mich named HELL.
January 25th, 2011
Sorry, but I would be walking right out of that store, if I saw him snuffing over things I might be thinking about buying.
January 25th, 2011
January 25th, 2011
One of the better looking “dogs” I’ve seen at WalMart.
January 25th, 2011
@ WHATEVER: Well said
OMG! Some of you need to just accept the picture for what it is. “Why is this picture here….?” IT’S FUNNY. Period. Did you READ the caption? IT’S FUNNY!
YES, it does appear to be a service dog. YES, he/she looks silly with a hoodie and booties on. Nobody’s making fun of sevice dogs or disabled ppl!! If you’re telling me you wouldn’t laugh if you saw this dog in the the store then I’m calling you a liar. It’s funny! And the caption is perfect for this picture. LOVE IT!
January 25th, 2011
Love the fact that she cares enough about her service animal to keep him/her warm and feet dry.
January 25th, 2011
the other dogs probably laugh at his outfit
January 25th, 2011
I have to agree with most above. This picture is adorable. I’m sorry that the person is disabled and needs a guide dog; however, I am happy to see that the dog is well taken care of…s/he’s being kept warm and the paws are being protected. Total kudos to the owner.
I think this pic totally appropriate, and a welcomed change from some of the disgusting people who would obviously need a guide dog to help them get dressed in the morning.
January 25th, 2011
Awesome caption. The dog’s day off. I bet the dog can’t wait to get back home and read the newspaper with a cup of coffee.
January 25th, 2011
probably wouldn’t have to wear the booties if it weren’t for the 50 pissing cats at home…
January 25th, 2011
That service dog works harder and has more education than the majority of people who shop in Wallyworld. Kudos to the owner for taking proper measures to care for him properly.
To the lady who stated she’d shop somewhere else if she saw the dog sniffing the food…service dogs are taught to not do that kind off stuff and if you are such a tight a**, the doors at the front of the store. See ya! Oh and you’d better hope, for you sake, that your judgmental self never finds you in her position. That dog’s cleaner than most in that store.
January 25th, 2011
I might have to steel this idea for the dog in my life so he doesn’t get ice and salt in between his paws. And the way his head is bowed, he looks like he wants to be home snuggling in front of the TV!
I’m not sure why it’s up here though…how do you follow up “Jesus is a Cunt” with this picture!? I need something a little more degrading to get through this work day!
January 25th, 2011
What a wonderful example of the height of canine couture! The other dogs must be wildly jealous!!
January 25th, 2011
Its not a cane for the blind you see on the dog, its the “leash”, most service dogs have a hard rigid thing attached to their harness. It looks like a giant letter “U” so to whoever said the lady is blind is a retard! Its just the angle the pic was taken at that makes it look like a cane. Who ever heard of a cane for a blind person being attached to their dog? And kudos for the dog being taken care of properly. If this is a super recent photo, its been freaking cold in the northern US, like in the negatives. Michigan gets wicked cold and this dog is wearing more clothes than I’ve seen some people put their newborn babies in during the coldest winter days!!
January 25th, 2011
@ KING….. You put the best comment on here so far. Awesome….I just about fell off my chair laughing!!!!!!
January 25th, 2011
@Evy – I agree with DailyAnthem – don’t let the front door hit you in the ass on your way out…..you sound like one of those bit**es that whines and complains about everything. Hope you or yours never has the need for a service animal, cause the animal probably wouldn’t be too happy having you as an owner.
January 25th, 2011
@Mel – you’re right on with that one. She also wouldn’t be shopping/driving the cart if she was blind.
January 25th, 2011
This picture is PoWM’s condolence for all the disgusting filth we’ve been seeing lately. Thank you!
January 25th, 2011
Those are dog boots and they have a serious purpose – they keep the road salt from burning the dog’s paws. Some of the ice melters on the market are very harmful to dogs’ paws. And the fact that boxers don’t have a thick coat, like a husky would, they need some kind of sweater to protect them from the cold. I don’t see anything ridiculous in this – I see an owner who cares about the welfare of her dog – and that’s a good thing.
January 25th, 2011
Most pet owners are in fact service humans.
January 25th, 2011
Those booties look comfortable, I wonder where I can get a pair. I think its a good idea for those dogs of service travel alot on concrete and other rough surfaces, not to metion protrection from the chemicals that treat icey conditions. I say Kudos to the owner on this one.
January 25th, 2011
NOPE…
Not a service pet.
Pisses me off when people disguise them as such (the ‘leash’) just so they can take them in stores et al
January 25th, 2011
I have a pair of booties like that- I wear them on my balls
January 25th, 2011
I am against any animal being near my food unless it is a service animal. However, I think that I am starting to have a change of heart., especially in light of how many dirty, smelly and truly diseased people there are out there. Besides, this guy is cute with his little shoes and sweater.
January 25th, 2011
@ Mike Reily-Must make walking difficult, how do you keep them in place? Super Glue, double sided tape??? Lol…
January 25th, 2011
As a service dog owner, I highly doubt this is one!
For one, no place will train a boxer because of the breathing problems. A service dog should be seen not heard, and a boxer snorting and slobbering isn’t appealing.
Also, you don’t dress a service dog!
Yes, they can and do wear booties to keep their feet from being wet/salty, etc. But the dog should have an identifying harness on, NOT a “cute” sweater!
My service dog ALWAYS has a backpack that has her patches on. In rain, she has a raincoat that goes over her backpack until we are inside. They make vests that keep them warm.
So, I don’t think this is one, I think it’s a pet trying to get away with going shopping.
January 25th, 2011
Ginger is my dog. My Mom says she is a wiener beagle. Sometimes I put a shirt on her. This reminded me of that,
January 25th, 2011
to sick, fat or lazy to walk, yet able to dress that poor animal up ?
January 26th, 2011
Son of Sam’s got it right.
January 26th, 2011
Ok, seriously, I train service dogs and I don’t think there is anything funny about this picture. In fact I think if someone took a picture of me and my dog and I found it here I would be a little upset. It is this woman’s right to be in Walmart with her dog, there is a sign on the door that says so, even if there wasn’t service dogs have full rights to stores! I think it is wonderful that this woman is keeping her dog warm and protecting its feet. Instead of taking a picture of this team maybe you should have offered to help her out.
January 26th, 2011
Oh, for cute!
January 26th, 2011
My neighbor has an English Mastiff Service Dog. The dog wears mutt-luks in the snow to keep the salts and chemicals off his paws. A boxer gets cold in the winter, so the hoodie is ideal. Service Dogs love to get out, but I know they love their days off too.
January 26th, 2011
At least he’s wearing shoes AND a shirt! That’s more than most humans wear in Walmart.
January 26th, 2011
@Alysianne:
They train pretty much every breed of dog to be a Service Dog. Now, I agree it might be hard to find a trainer for certain breeds, but dogs are highly intelligent and given the time and right trainer, most all breeds are trainable:

So cute! Poor doggie
January 26th, 2011
Get a clue. Guide dogs are not only for the blind, but also for the VISUALLY IMPAIRED. Since this dog may not be for someone that it 100% blind, it may be for someone that trained it themselves. Owner-trained service dogs have just as many rights as those trained by schools. The Boxer may be a rescue. So it may be true that “no place will train a boxer because of the breathing problems. A service dog should be seen not heard, and a boxer snorting and slobbering isn’t appealing”, but if she was able to adopt the dog for a small fee and train it, she’s saved a life and learned to carry a towel with her.
When I lived in New England, I had a fleece jacket for my mixed breed mobility service dog. It happened to be purple because that was the color that was available at the pet store that day. I didn’t care, I just wanted something to keep my dog warm. If this woman got hers second hand (not all of us on social security are rolling in money), then she may have been just happy to have her dog warm too.
January 27th, 2011
FYI on the service dog industry: YOU CAN have your dog trained as a service dog! For those who are attached to a dog they already own, fall on hard times, and dont want to bond with another animal, or dont want another animal in their home, or are only allowed ONE animal, you can have your own dog trained to be a service dog. I know a couple who have a Boston Terrier that was trained as one. There is no specific breed, or type etc that is a requirement. And Boxers are not excluded for breathing problems etc. They are very smart, highly trainable, but they dont fall into the normal breeds for a service dog. Most service dogs are labs and retrievers. Acceptions are made though.
To the person that said they would leave the store if they saw a dog there like this? Get over yourself. That service dog is probably cleaner and obviously better behaved than you! I hope you never have a circumstance that you need a service dog.. not for your sake, for the sake of the poor animal that would be forced to live with a self righteous, “I’m better than you” ignorant fool.
January 27th, 2011
@ Evy Rosebrook:
You need to be shoved off that pedestal you have yourself on. Get over yourself, you ignorant bitch.
January 30th, 2011
re: Alysianne – you are NOT the be all end all of the Service Dog world. I have met a few owner trained SDs that were boxer/bully breeds. If you are in a wheel chair and need a “working” dog to pull you around they are GREAT at it and enjoy their work. She probably has a patch on her dog but there is no LAW that says our dogs have to be labeled.
As for being “dressed” I think ALL SDs should be just for the “ick” factor! My Standard Poodle goes out dressed all the the time! Why, cause the world is icky! we go to places that I might put him in a down stay, airports, trains, movie theaters, etc. All dirty icky places and things I do NOT want to track home. Also dressing your dog keeps them from shedding wherever they go. I have heard TONS of complaints from clerks who have had to defurr and rerack after some lab SD.
So I DO think this is a team, probably partnered for years. Single coated dogs need the added protection during the cold months ESPECIALLY boxers. That bred is all muscle and low fat so they don’t have the coverage needed to stay warm.
January 31st, 2011
He’s hanging his head most likely because he is trained not to put his face near the merchandise. Good doggie!!
February 4th, 2011
“no shoes, no shirt, no service”. That dog reads better than most people on this site.
February 9th, 2011
The photo is here because it’s FUNNY, people. Geez, take your meds. It doesn’t have to be redneck trailer trash or gross – it’s cute and yes, it’s FUNNY.
February 15th, 2011
I am sorry but that poor dog looks embarrassed….lol
September 26th, 2011
I just looked back at this post after quite a while.
I was very new to the dog world, and very gullible.
I also have bad eyesight, and couldn’t see the harness correctly.
I apologize for not knowing enough.
November 12th, 2011
We have a service dog, due to my husband being blind, and there are a few services that knit sweaters for service dogs, that fit with their harnesses, they get cold too, even though they have fur. The previous poster is correct, the booties are to protect their pads, They are standard issue when you get a service animal.
