These Little Piggies
I don’t even think pet stores carry 30 Guinea Pigs! What the hell do you need with that many and what the hell do you need with that many while waiting at Walmart?

May 7th, 2011
Thought it would just be a pic of three regular customers.
May 7th, 2011
Were they holding a pet adoption? That is odd
May 7th, 2011
You just know she’s gonna demand a return … saying they never told me they’d have babies
May 7th, 2011
Peruvian people eat them like most people eat chicken . Honest, it might be fresh food for a Peruvian immigrant.
May 7th, 2011
This is the Republican plan for Wal-Mart to do women’s health care – Pregnancy Tests.
May 7th, 2011
Pet adoption day? I don’t know but I’m sure there’s a logical explanation.
May 7th, 2011
You just know she’s gonna say they never told me they’d have babies… and demand a full price return on all 30
May 7th, 2011
I had a hamster and he got out of his cage.
May 7th, 2011
Maybe they’re a delivery for whatever fast food chain is located inside that particular store…?
May 7th, 2011
This little piggy went to WalMart…..
This little piggy stayed home…… and was he damn glad of that!
May 7th, 2011
There was probably a rabbit and small game show somewhere nearby judging from the cages and the box. As to why they’re in a Walmart… I’m wondering that myself
May 7th, 2011
somebody was buying snake food.
May 7th, 2011
Really, where is the proof this picture was inside a Walmart? Does only Walmart have blue walls and grey benches?
May 7th, 2011
@COLDNLONELY
Maybe it was too hot to leave them in the car…
May 7th, 2011
Those look like show cages and show cavys (g. pigs). Yes they show these little guys just like they have dog shows and cat shows.
I doubt this was taken in a walmart.
Check out the American Rabbit Breeders Association at http://www.ARBA.net – there’s all sorts of pictures of show rabbits and cavys. Some of the breeds are really quite funny looking!

Those aren’t just “pets” those are show cavys (g. pigs). Yes they show these little guys just like they do dogs, cats, etc.
Check out the American Rabbit Breeders Assn website at http://www.ARBA.net
They have all sorts of pictures of the recognized (show) breeds. Some are really crazy looking – one even looks like it has a PERM. LOL

Wal-Mart is a drop off for most small pet shops. If a small pet shop needs a small order they can use a bigger store to get it dropped off so that they don’t have to worry about their minimum order amount. I know I used to run a small mom and pop pet shop. We had to do that every once and a while. BTW most of your common pets that are in any store in your area more than likely come from one warehouse.

In South America the guinea pigs are in the food section. Not the pet section.
May 7th, 2011
maybe walmart was going to hand out free samples and brought in real guinea pigs to try them first, if they cook the way look it was`nt a bad idea
May 7th, 2011
popcorn chicken?
May 7th, 2011
Awwww! 2 cute!!
May 7th, 2011

I WANT ONE!
May 7th, 2011
in a china walmart, they keep them in the food section..
May 7th, 2011
How do we even know that the person sitting on the bench is even associated with the caged things? Maybe the cages were already stacked there and the person just happened to sit next to them? At any rate, I see nothing truly “PoWM” about this picture; just odd to see so many of the critters in one place, is all.
May 7th, 2011
We don’t have live animals in my WalMart. Well, none in cages, anyway.
May 7th, 2011
“Welcome customers to the first ever Walmart Pet show,! Small animals on the right, Dogs and cats down the middle, Livestock to the left, and on the top floor please check out our Wal-Creature section!”
May 7th, 2011
Snake food???
May 7th, 2011
Be happy it’s not gerbils being bought by a guy in a dress.
May 7th, 2011
Pigs are like, “How the hell did we end up here….being sold at Wal-mart? Just kills us now.”
May 7th, 2011
This is obviously a small animal rescue doing adoptions. Our Walmart allows the rescues and no-kill shelters in the area to use the area out front or just inside of the store for adoptions on alternating weekends during nice weather, since these programs are often run out of people’s private homes. Good for this Walmart! And shame on you, PoW, for trying to make this a bad thing. This is a fail for you.
May 7th, 2011
@ Katy, thanks for explaining about the adoptions. I’ve never seen them anyplace but at the local pet stores. I doubt that any of our other regulars (and irregulars!) knew about it, either.
May 7th, 2011
Hoarder?
May 7th, 2011

BBQ’d with a spicy sauce on skewers they’re great, but so is cat, dog and horse.
@ Dave. So true about Zimern, opens the eyes to a whole new range of edibles.
My time spent in Southeast Asia was not wasted eating chicken and burgers

BBQ’d with a spicy sauce they’re great.

Walmart needs for somebody to read “Pigs is Pigs”
May 7th, 2011
Must be a lot of Peruvians in that area.
May 7th, 2011
This store is in San Fransico….the girbils just don’t work anymore !!!
May 7th, 2011
Actually guinea pigs do oink. I have 2.
May 7th, 2011
Good chance they might have been doing an adoption event.
May 7th, 2011
Looks like someone learned the hard way that guinea pigs and tribbles are the same critter. Practically born pregnant.
May 7th, 2011
I think it’s Peru that they are sold for food. Could be catering to the Peruvians.
May 7th, 2011
I bet that smells just fantastic. On the other hand could you really tell the difference from the normal Wal Mart stench.
May 7th, 2011
*lol*
May 8th, 2011
Maybe they were trying to sell them to the meat department.
May 8th, 2011
I’ve seen the same thing at our Walmart…no-kill shelters and private individuals trying to give away/sell pets…though it is usually just cats or dogs. That many guineas makes me suspect either a raid on an unethical breeder or a local research lab just closed down.
May 8th, 2011
Walmart takes anything back.. It’s probably a return, lol !!!
May 9th, 2011
Probably a personal sale they allow it here in Joplin, only you have to stay outside…….
May 9th, 2011
Taste like chicken……..
May 10th, 2011
some Wal-Marts sell pets
May 10th, 2011
Do guinea pigs have guinea bacon?
May 10th, 2011
Actually they were on their way back from a show and their car got a flat so they were buying a new tire. Brought the critters in so as not to leave them in the car while their car was being worked on. Smelled horrible, was very loud and even the Wal Mart employees were coming by to gawk.
May 10th, 2011
Those cages are cruel! Guinea pigs need so much more room than that! Poor guys!! :’(
May 11th, 2011
What I’m going to tell you is really sad, but true. Some people eat guinea pigs. Just google “cuy” if you don’t believe me!
May 12th, 2011
to Katie and others, yes, these are obvioulsy show animals. They do not live in these cages. They are only transported in them like you would crate a dog or cat. Transporting them in larger cages can lead to injuries if the car makes an emergency hard stop or hard turn. The animals could get thrown against the sides of the cage. The smaller cages make it so they only go a short ways in those situations and don’t get hurt.
May 13th, 2011
Hey! Maybe those are her Service Animals, and she has to bring them with her at all times to soothe her anxiety. (The sign on the door says “service animals welcome”..check it! )lol
May 14th, 2011
