When Monkeys Attack!
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Finding a monkey in a Walmart parking lot can be surprising, especially when it’s jumpy.
A family had just arrived for a family trip to Walmart when they spotted a monkey in the SUV they parked next to.
“As we got out, Tayce, being 8 years old, wanted to see the monkey. So, she got out, looked up at the monkey, said, ‘Hi,’ and he gave the animal just enough slack to where it could jump out, grab her by her hair, and bite her on the forehead,” Mike Weeks told KY3 News.
The monkey’s owner said it wasn’t a bite, just a scratch.
Animal control responded, took a report and sent the monkey — named Charlie — and his owners home. It was a decision Tayce’s mother was not fond of.
“They’re known to carry tuberculosis, hepatitis B, herpes — and this animal is just allowed to go home,” said Weeks.
The monkey and Tayce were both tested for various diseases. Weeks said she was especially concerned about hepatitis B; which is found in most macaques and can be fatal to humans.
“Everybody says, ‘Put her on antivirals and pray.’ That’s basically the situation we’ve been left in,” Weeks told reporters.
She said test results will be back in a week.

Poor kid will have to tell their partner someday, “I’ve got herpes….and I got them from a monkey.”

Poor kid will be on a psychiatrist’s couch at 30, wondering why the nature channel sends her into the fetal position….

That animal should be put down, just like if it had been a dog that bit her. If it bit once, it will bite again.

Good one Jen.

I don’t understand why people keep monkeys as pets, and I don’t understand why people will let their children pet monkeys. It’s pretty well known that those animals are nasty, and mean.
Either way, I’m glad it all turned out okay.

If it were a dog, animal control would not have been so eager to let the monkey and its’ owner go home. No matter what breed, there would have been all kinds of mean dog bs. As it were, no one knew what to do with a monkey. How about the owner paying for all the medical bills including the psychological counseling?

I read this to my 9 year old, her comment was, “They probably let her go around petting strange dogs too. Someone should call SRS. What kind of name is ‘Tayce’ anyway? Did they make up that nonsense?”
My 7 year old commented, “Maybe they’ll save enough at Walmart to buy some common sense and a baby naming book.”
(SRS is child protective services in our state.)

The parent is listing all the diseases the monkey might have; and yet, knowing that, she let her 8-year-old go over and stick her face in the monkey’s business. I want to know what diseases the kid is carrying. And if I were the monkey’s uncle, I’d sue the parent for endangering the ape.
Dang! You need a license to own a dog, but any darn fool can raise a kid.

Seriously? You people are blaming the mother of the little girl?? Idiots! She stated in her report that the little girl got out of the car, looked up at the monkey and said “Hi”. She had no intention of petting it, the monkey’s owner let the monkey out of the window and if it would have been my kid, there would have been a dead monkey.

the kid won’t be able to watch any of the Planet of the Ape movies without freaking out.

1. Don’t try to feed chili peppers to the lions in the safari park.
2. Don’t climb the fence at the bear cage to “play with the teddy”.
3. Don’t pet the monkey! Never pet the monkey!

I agree…if this was someones dog or cat that bit a kid there certainly would have been more repercussions. geesh…and who hasnt seen the stuff on TV about the lady that got attacked by a monkey and it ruined her face and hands. what idiots would let their kid go pet one?? 2 wrongs dont make a right here folks…

after that monkey attack that you referenced, i have to ask why anyone still owns a monkey.
August 24th, 2011
And humans also carry all of those diseases/illnesses.

So let me get thsi straight…. they pulled up next to an SUV and they let the monkey out? shouldn’t the focus be on how stupid the person is who let the monkey out? i mean the monkey obviously was ok with its owner, not a stange little girl who probably would try to ride it….

I would have beat that monkey down and there wouldn’t have been any questions. The monkey’s owner is an idiot.

Darwinism. I hope it hits her. Hard.

whoa, that’s just weird, cause when I was 8 I was bit by a monkey too, no joke. It was in the ankle though, it grabbed my shoe, hah.

Somebody needs to SPANK that MONKEY!

Kid should not have gone near the monkey sorry not hers to touch. My mom always told me never to approach an animal I did not know and that includes monkeys!!
September 1st, 2011
Why the hell did the mom even let the kid get close to the monkey if she knew they had “tuberculosis, hepatitis B, herpes”? Both sides of this story are retarded and neither deserve crap.

If there was a monkey in the car, why would you let your child look into it and say hi? If its an SUV, then they had to look up into it wouldnt they? I would never let my child go near anyone elses car, monkey or no monkey inside of it. Thats just like going up to a car with a dog in it. its just plain stupid. Next time, dont let your child be nosey and it wont happen. Its not your car so dont peer in and say “hi!” to something in it.
