Male here and I see no problem with a woman discretely breast feeding.
It is a natural and beautiful connection of mother and child. With all the troubles and issues in the world, the last thing anyone should worry about is breas tfeeding in public.

This is exactly why there MUST be laws that are specific regarding public breastfeeding. You can’t count on all women being discreet and respectful. If this is such a special, intimate and bonding time with one’s child, then it should be private, discreet and protective.

Apparently there are too many nursing women who act like exhibitionists, NOT mothers who respect their bodies, or protecting their children and the importance of privacy.

Nursing mothers can prepare for spontaneous nursing and their child’s needs by keeping a handy light blanket or other veil just for that purpose. If your child is big enough to fight a blanket or not like it, it doesn’t need to be nursed anymore.
Or else express your milk at home and have it ready in a bottle. There are alternatives to THIS spectacle.
I mean seriously? Have some self respect and respect for your baby!

Breasts are a food source. As a man, I like them for other reasons, but they’re primarily designed and intended as a food source for children. I personally would be to embarrassed to breast feed exposed in public, however, I have no problem with what this woman is doing. She is feeding her child, there is nothing wrong with it. Also, it isn’t very easy to keep a blanket over a baby while sitting down, I doubt a blanket would stay in place while walking around shopping.

This child looks to be about a year or so old, and by six months every single one of my four children wanted to be able to see me and the world around them while they ate, and would pull off any cover I attempted to use. I did try to bring my shirt down as far as possible in order to conceal as much as possible, but there was no way my babies would have allowed their heads to be covered; and by covering the child you are preventing mom and baby from further bonding.. Why don’t you all go throw a blanket over your own heads while YOU eat and see how YOU like it? I bet you wouldn’t!

To those who think the child is too old, I say to you: get a life. There is no way that child is more than maybe 12-15 months old, judging by his/her size in that photo. My oldest child, in fact, was about that size at nine months of age. EBF, or extended breastfeeding, is perfectly acceptable in this society, and is even encouraged by pediatricians and the federal government. It is not uncommon for babies to breastfeed EXCLUSIVELY until their first birthday, then continue to breastfeed along with eating solids until two, three, even four years of age.

I breastfed both my kids for a combined 2 years. I never used a cover. A) I live in Texas, and even with AC, most indoor public places hover around 80-85 degrees, and B), who would eat with a blanket over their head, much less an infant who wants to see everything that is going on?!?!

Ask my 5 year old what boobs are for and he will tell you “so that babies can drink milk from them.” If your child finds it disturbing that a mother is breastfeeding then that is your fault. You need to explain to them why women were given breasts that produce milk. Breasts are not simply for sexual pleasure. They are to feed babies, pure and simple! That is why they have mammary glands that produce milk inside of them.

Here’s some food for thought… Is it gross to see a normal person eating a candy bar and walking around in public? Babies need to eat too. Im a woman, and its ok if people want to breast feed, but cover-up. its like we ask people to meet us half way and accept it but yet we can’t cover up? Let’s discuss the fast that the child being fed is far to old to still be on a bottle much less her mams’s boob. There is also a thing called modesty that this woman seems to not get or care about. I’m a woman. I have kids and yes they need to eat, but geeze. There are a number of things wrong with this.

Having done the breastfeeding thing, I have to tell you that having boobs completely full of milk is really, really painful. Imagine being hit in the chest with a two-by-four painful. Plus you put yourself at risk for mastitis (blockage – more painful than the usual engorgement) if you don’t feed or pump. And plus if you don’t nurse regularly, you start to produce less milk. Which is a pain in the ass.

As for the cover-up, to each their own. I tried it and while my kid was cool with it, you sweat. Lots. Nasty sweat. Infants are heaters, man. When you breastfeed, you kind of have a funky smell (Unless you munch on a lot of fenugreek – somehow that tames the smell). Like you need sweat on top of that. I preferred to sit down myself, so I went to my car (A/C cranked) or a nice seat adjacent to a restroom if available – malls and airports often have a sectioned off area that is, ya know, sanitary, where you can relax. Just my preference, though – nothing to do with modesty, just like to sit.

What it all boils down to we are animals and being an animal is pretty nasty. Oily skin is nasty. Runny noses are nasty. Bacteria in mouths are nasty. Childbirth is nasty. And sex is a bit nasty when you really think about it. But ya know, you really need to just accept it. When you do, things seem a little less nasty. Makes life easier.

First off, that child looks a little too big to still be breast feeding. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for breast feeding and a mother’s right to do so, not not where all the world can see. I, for one, just don’t want to see it. There should be rooms set aside in public places for a mother to go to do this, out of the view of others, especially out of the view of the pervs

So it’s fine for a mother to take a bottle full of preservitives and chemicaly enginered ‘food’ and give it to a baby in public, BUT it’s not okay to feed your child the natural, mother made, balanced milk. Some babies won’t take a fake nipple on a bottle, some have medical issues that the mother has worked so hard to get their baby to latch, maybe they don’t even want to try a bottle. Why would anyone throw a fit over something that’s been happening since the dawn of man. It’s cheap, it’s natural, it’s beautiful, it’s what BOOBS are for. Hundreds of years ago, babies died from mothers not being able to produce enough milk, or even any at all. I wish my body would have produced milk. I would be doing the same thing. (I would cover up though, because I’m not the skinny teenager I once was.)

I’m all for breastfeeding. Even in public babies need to eat. I don’t believe in having to take them to the restroom to eat (how would you like to eat by a toilet?)
