The pictures on the web site are sometimes funny, sometimes not, but the content in the comments kind of remind me of a scene in the Hunchback of Notre Dame. The one where Quasimodo’s tied to a wooden platform and everyone’s throwing tomatoes at him because he was ugly and the public was influenced by one person throwing the first. I feel that partially applies to here.
Like, in some cases the pictures are the first person throwing the first tomato, and making the rest of the public feel that it’s socially acceptable to throw more.
I do get Quasimodo was naturally deformed, but sometimes some of the overweight people on here might naturally be that way too. And I think that even if you wear something ugly (not referring to fit) you should be able to do that without a whole lot of people saying stuff.

there are 3 categories of people who get put on here—those that don’t own a mirror and have no clue how fat/ugly/poorly dressed they are—those that don’t CARE—and those that dress to “impress” or get attention (e.g. Hello Kitty). in all the cases, they deserve the negative attention because they make a CHOICE every time they leave the house to dress in whatever manner they do, it’s not terribly easy to UNsee some people (no choice in the matter when they appear in front of you when all you want is a tub of peanut butter, some dishsoap, or paper towels). Take a little pride, folks, that’s all we ask!

I get what your saying!! But we are not throwing tomatoes if you will at the fat and ugly people, because their fat and or ugly. We throw them at fat ugly people wear thongs and showing them off, or we are throwing them at fat and ugly people showing their ass cracks, or how stupid they look in what they want to to show the rest of the world. Hey if they didn’t want to be made fun of you think they might wear something a bit more appropriate into public. People who get offended by what is said on here should either stop shopping at Walmart or stop acting like some wild animals. Maybe have a bit of pride in one self

I can’t remember seeing any picture on here of someone just because of weight. They are always on here because of poor clothing/accessory/hair choices. as for being “naturally” overweight. That is never natural. There may be a medical reason, but humans have never naturally been huge. you can buy into the whole politically correct mass hypnosis that is the current trend in this country about weight if you want, but i have been other places besides here where our society is the target of ridicule because of this, and know it’s not natural. There… yes i was poltically incorrect so fire away gridley.

*Rolling eyes* Eh god, here we go again. Another do-gooder who cant seem to figure out that the people on this site that are being made fun of – are being made fun of because of their OWN DOING. IF they didnt go out in public with their cracks hanging out, guts sticking out, etc. GUESS what? They wouldnt be on here! Sara, I am what most people would consider very overweight. I am also a mom of 2, and shop at Wal Mart frequently.
When I look at the pictures on pow.com, I am not offended because the overweight folks on here are totally dressed inappropriately! You simply do NOT go out in public wearing a “belly” shirt & low cut pants if your belly is the largest part of your body! It’s simple: Dress to cover your self, or be laughed at. I would never embarass myself or my kids by dressing to show off my overweight body. That’s just wrong.
Besides being a big girl, I have a BIG sense of humor, and I think that POW.com is great! Remember, if some people were not the perfect targets for these pictures there wouldn’t be any pictures in the first place.

I do see your point, and think the validity of it would be better appriciated on a different site. the whole purpose of this site it to take a few minutes and chuckle. You dont have to admit it, but inside, you chuckle too, maybe jsut not as much as we do. your use of comparison and feelings are great for writing! But please let us have our 10 minutes of laughing while we are taking a break of our everyday lives. now im off to finish my coffee, drop the kiddo off at school and head to work. (we are all jsut normal people here)

You must not have actually watched Hunchback of Notre Dame. Maybe all you watched was the Disney Cartoon. They never threw any tomatoes at him. Rotten cabbages and other rotten vegetables, yes, but tomatoes were not on the menu back then, Sara. Dummy. If what you watched had tomatoes in it, then the film writers were dummies, too.

for a lot of obese people they simply have a hard time finding clothes that fit. and that stay on. do you have any idea how hard it is for someone with a waist size of 45″ plus to find a pair of well fitting pants and/or a belt?? most of the time these people wear what they can get on and a lot of times the pants just tend to fall down.

People who have a genetic predisposition towards obesity do not need to actually become fat and they are the exception not the rule. The majority of people in America who are fat are so due to their own negligence of their health and should be encouraged and aided in losing that weight…HOWEVER if you go into a place of business with ample belly fat wearing skimpy clothing you are just begging for criticism. I have friends who are fat and they don’t mind it and a few take pride in it but they always dress well and present themselves in a dignified way…not these PoWM targets. I’ve seen skinny women with mullets targeted here too so this is a site that openly ridicules everyone who makes a lifestyle of infinite bad taste.

No one is “naturally” fat. It’s caused by overeating and being inactive. I’m overweight and it’s because I eat more than I burn. Don’t take up for people who abuse their bodies. Dope and booze are not the only enemies, food, laziness and sugar are too.

Overweight people who REFUSE to eat more sensibly DESERVE to have a tomato or 2 thrown at them. They’re better for them than say fried chicken or potato chips for dinner. They don’t like salads, but they’ll eat double-cheeseburgers and french fries? Hypocrites, all of them!

Wasn’t Quasimodo a FICTIONAL character created by Victor Hugo?
In most depictions of Quasimodo, he isn’t wearing hot pants showing a thong and a T-Shirt saying “I’m too sexy for this shirt” while ringing the bells!
This site doesn’t single out anyone apart from those who don’t know how to dress or conduct themselves in public.
Unfortunately, PoWM does help the stereotype view of Americans by the the rest of the world!

its not like we love harassing such people, u shud also bear in mind that wt u wear in public gives an impression of who u are like running around naked, wudnt that bother any1? obviously people who try to dress like they are something (which they know they are not!) it obviously hurts eyes, some look away, some make fun, and that is inevitable, u cant stop them from not making fun of the weirdly dressed people, take 4 instance celebrities (GAGA the Great example) she obviously luks ugly with those dresses and we can poke fun @ her whenever we want bcoz she wants our atttention. therefore people who dress awkwardly either are trying to get attention (which they succeed) or being miserably lazy to put on clothes!!

Not for nothing Sam, but if a fat person can’t find clothes to fit, then they sure can’t fit in a regular plane seat, or one on a bus or stadium, then basically they dont fit in the world anymore. So I THINK that’s a pretty clear signal that it’s time to lose some weight- Instead of expecting the whole freaking world to accommodate them simply because they stuff their face too much and/or sit around too much.
AND FOR EVERY HATERS INFORMATION!!! I DO have
metabolic condition called hypothyroidism- it’s the condition that makes one naturally fat. HOWEVER, there is medication for it that’s been around for like 60 years called levothyroxine, very well known, widely available, and CHEAP. And guess what- I take my medicine like a good girl and watch what I eat- and I am NOT FAT.
So people, stop apologizing for folks. When I see someones butt crack or huge gut hanging out, it’s just as inconsiderate. People wear clothes for A REASON. If that weren’t true everyone wd be going around naked which is inconsiderate. These folks are skirting that line (so to speak) of indecency and are rightly being called out on it. Thank you.

I don’t remember seeing a post where someone is making fun of someone else JUST because they were overweight. It was usually because the 300lb person was wearing booty shorts, a thong, or a tube top. (You get the visual) And there’s PLENTY of photos on here of people who are not overweight and are made fun of because of the way they decide to walk out in PUBLIC (public is the key word here). Wear your booty shorts or your ‘Hail Satan Motherf***er’ t-shirt at home where you can admire yourself but for the rest of the world, we don’t want to see it and will voice our opinion. I used to be “naturally fat” or “big-boned” when I was young, or at least that’s what I would tell myself. Eventually I decided to stop drinking sugary drinks, stop eating junk food, and start exercising and eating properly. Now I’m “naturally” not fat. It’s a miracle to think that the laws of thermodynamics actually applies to the human body too.
Walk around any grocery store and take a peak in the shopping carts of overweight people and you’ll see the same garbage: pop, chocolate, sugary “fruit” drinks, frozen pizzas, chips, and frozen food high in saturated fat. Obesity is a choice.
