Cupcake For The Cure
The only word that comes to mind is “counterproductive”…well that and “Diabeetus” because I can’t read that word without thinking of the Quaker Oats guy saying it.

If I have to have diabetes, then everyone has to have diabetes
February 23rd, 2012
well, they could be cupcakes that even someone with diabetes could eat. there are a lot of foods out there like that now
February 23rd, 2012
I’d trade my left foot for one of those cupcakes.
February 23rd, 2012
Mildly ironic; not at all funny.
February 23rd, 2012
If you donate less than a dollar, where does the money go?
February 23rd, 2012
Cupcakes for bicycle rider club. I have a three wheel bike I ride to work when it is nice out.
February 23rd, 2012
Sort of like smoke a joint to cure drug addiction. Or something…
February 23rd, 2012
Isn’t that kind of like fighting for peaceful co-exisitance ?
February 23rd, 2012
bob has 14 cupcakes, he eats them all. what does he have now? diabetes.
February 23rd, 2012
Reminds me of that old saying… Fighting for peace is like F***ing for virginity.
February 23rd, 2012
They could have easily made them sugar free, and then people who are diabetic could donate for a treat.
February 23rd, 2012
How about I buy a beer and Support Alcoholics Anonymous?

*Face Palm*
February 23rd, 2012
If they really want to do it the right way, they should just have a $1.00 donations for sugar water injections.
February 23rd, 2012
Only in America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 23rd, 2012
Old school it used to be taught no sugar for diabetics, it is perfectly ok to have a cup cake in moderation. Sugar does not cause diabetes
February 23rd, 2012
Plus does anyone even know those are not mad with sugar substitute?
February 23rd, 2012
so i guess the diabetics wont be donating for the cure. aint that a kick in the ass.
February 23rd, 2012
mad=made
February 23rd, 2012

February 23rd, 2012
Every time you turn around someone has their hand out begging
February 23rd, 2012
I am greatful to see some people know about diabetes. I have type 2. Sugar is ok in moderation and sugar substitute is exactly the same as sugar to your body. It cannot tell the difference. I have to consume around 60 grams of total Carbs per meal thats about 4 or 5 points @ 4 meals a day. Good luck and stick with it all you fellow diabetics.
February 23rd, 2012
Pathetic irony.
February 23rd, 2012
Surprise, suppose, the state of Georgia is in the middle of the ‘Beetus Belt.

February 23rd, 2012
I really get tired of people posting things like this and thinking that eating sugar causes diabetes… guess what people IT DOESN’T….and the only way to get Type II diabetes is being overweight.. so it kinda fits, but really… eating a lot of sugar does not cause diabetes..
February 23rd, 2012
Everyone here seems to know but does the average man on the street realized that obesity is the number one cause of type 2 diabetes? Maybe not. As to the donations going to the “diabetes association” – pure bunk. The walmart office staff is simply having their annual employee appreciation party and this is the fund raiser. Sure , they might give one penny on the dollar just to keep it legal.
February 23rd, 2012
As an employee of Walmart ..each store has fundraisers and does this sort of stuff..not everyone who buys these cupcakes are diabetic…My store does this alot..but most of the time we have fundraisers in which it is only the associates who participate..we have fundraising dinners, or silent auctions or bakesales…so what is the big deal with this picture???
February 23rd, 2012
I’m surprised that all the Walcreatures aren’t buying them out.
February 23rd, 2012
And…the money really does go to legit causes or associates in need…not in managements pockets..I my self have been a recipient of a fundraiser when my house caught on fire..It helped plus the Walmart Foundation also gave me money (over $1,000.)band I had only worked for them for less than 6 months…all because my house burned…I have worked for them for 3 years and they have been good to me.
February 23rd, 2012
I work for the american diabtes association and every person who wants to ride for tourdecure has to fundraise 150 dollar minimum or volunteer. My hubby has type 1 diabetes and there is no cure but he can still eat sugar as long as hus blood glucose is controlled. Type 2 is preventable with healthy eating and excercise.
February 23rd, 2012
If you stop at the table, Wilford Brimley will throw a cupcake in your face.
February 23rd, 2012
Wrong, Gonzo, not everyone who develops diabetes is overweight. It’s a risk factor, but not a cause. There’s way more involved than a person’s weight.
February 23rd, 2012
For those posting that “type II diabetes is caused by obesity”… what the hell do you think causes obesity? SUGAR! OMG!
Diabetes is a disease where by the body cannot produce enough insulin to keep up with the amount of sugar (glucose) in your blood. You don’t have to be obese to be Type II diabetic; there are many people suffering that are thin. Insulin also tells the body to store excess glucose as fat… thereby causing the obesity you claim is causing the diabetes.
Carbs = sugar. Whether you eat a frosted cupcake or two slices of whole wheat bread, it all becomes sugar in the bloodstream. In fact, two slices of whole wheat bread is worse than 2 tablespoons of table sugar. Read up and educate yourselves instead of pushing the same old tired (and incorrect) rhetoric.
February 23rd, 2012
Fight fire with fire. Fight diabetes with cupcakes.
February 23rd, 2012
Only the truly ignorant would find this humorous. Both types of diabetics can consume sugar. And no, not all diabetics are fat and nor did we get diabetes because we are fat and live an unhealthy lifestyle. I was diagnosed when I was an infant. I think making fun of diabetes is just as funny as making fun of cancer. Diabetes does kill, does disable, cannot be cured, and often cannot be prevented. But I guess you would think diabetes is hilarious if you didn’t have to deal with it your entire life… ugh.
February 23rd, 2012
Gonzo being over weight is NOT the only cause for type 2 diabetes it is caused by a persons pancrease and liver not working properly
February 23rd, 2012
I don’t see the big deal. You offer things people are willing to donate money for. Like a table full of apples or sugar free breath mints would draw a crowd?
And as someone previously stated Walmart stores are very serious about fundraising. The money does not fund parties or line anyone’s pockets. It goes to charities like Children’s Miracle network, Relay for Life, and local charities. When there is anything resembling a ‘party’ it is usually a potluck where you pay so much per plate which also GOES TO A CHARITY.
February 23rd, 2012
They have to give you diabetes to keep those donations coming!
February 23rd, 2012
I have been a diabetic since age 2…. i am 5’2″ and weigh 123 pounds, wear a size 4 in juniors’ clothes, and I LOVE CUPCAKES.
February 23rd, 2012
Some people should learn about diabetes prior to posting! There is Type 1 diabetes and Type 2. Learn the difference! Like Gonzo said, a Type 1 can have a cupcake. And also this is a fundraiser. Ignorance is bliss I suppose!
February 23rd, 2012
Denise
I have been a diabetic since age 2…. i am 5’2″ and weigh 123 pounds, wear a size 4 in juniors’ clothes, and I LOVE CUPCAKES.
You are a type one diabetic- you were born with it. Eating till you’re stuffed to the gills and becoming morbidly obese is what generally causes type two.
February 23rd, 2012
Girl watcher it makes insulin to keep sugar down. The liver puts sugar into the system. If either of these are not working properly it can lead to diabetes.
Denise my daughter is 5’4″ weights 110 pounds, size 3 and type 2 diabetic there goes your theory that being over weight causes it
If it were true people that lost weight would be cured of their diabetes

The human pancreas. (A) View of the pancreas showing clusters of acinar cells (i.e., acini), islet cells (i.e. islets), and pancreatic ducts. (B) An enlargement of a secretory region of the pancreas. Acini secrete digestive enzymes into the small intestine, islets secrete the hormones insulin and glucagon into the bloodstream to regulate blood glucose concentration, and duct cells secrete bicarbonate to regulate small intestine acidity
February 23rd, 2012
I’m a type 2 and still enjoy a cupcake every now and again. Moderation is the key! Besides, maybe these are sugar fre cupcakes. I bought a sugar free chocolate creme pie at WalMart just today…
You can be type 2 and not be overweight. It just means your pancreas isn’t producing enough insulin. Type ones don’t produce any at all.
February 23rd, 2012
money & margarine, 2 things paula dean can’t get enough of !
February 23rd, 2012
Well said B-dwarf
February 23rd, 2012
Winner BITCHY THE DWARF for the most accurate descrioption of the disease. Now, who can more accurately describe the effects of a cupcake on a diabetic?
February 23rd, 2012
Dude, this is meant to be funny. Calm down, folks.
You have to admit, this is a little ironic. While yes, people with diabetes can often have sugar and sometimes even need it, consumption has to be well-timed. Randomly picking up a cupcake generally doesn’t work. And simple sugars are part of the obesity problem – a lot of people drink sugary drinks and eat more than enough desserts.
That said, money towards diabetes causes are a very good thing. Kudos to the folks that volunteer their time to battle this life-threatening condition.

They should station this table over near the electric scooters.
February 24th, 2012
Reminds me of the time I went shopping at Catherines (a plus-size store) and they had a table covered in snacks.
February 24th, 2012
Since my first comment was eaten…
Type II diabetes is not caused by obesity. Anyone who says otherwise really needs to sit down and do some research. Not all Type II diabetics are obese and not all people who are obese are Type II diabetic… though they are probably well on their way as their bodies become more and more insulin resistant from consuming too much SUGAR.
Sugar comes in many forms… including those “heart healthy whole grains” the USDA tries to push down our throats. Following the food pyramid and all of the so-called dietary guidelines is in fact what leads to obesity in the first place.
February 24th, 2012
Ha! Your a fool, whoever posted this pic. I make those same jokes about the Quaker oats guy in those commercials. LMAO!
February 24th, 2012
It may seem counter-productive, but I say whatever works. Hopefully the people who buy the cupcakes don’t have diabetes.
February 24th, 2012
So I’m not the only person who thinks of Wilfred’s pronunciation every time I see or hear that word.
February 24th, 2012
Wow, didn’t think they’d be so obvious but it makes total sense. Just like every other cure organization, they don’t actually want a cure because they’d be out of business and lose their jobs!
February 24th, 2012
As someone who was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, there’s something else that you must realize. One of the reasons that there are so many type 2 diabetics is that the threshold for Diabetes has been lowered so much. My blood sugar count is and always has been 115 – 120, with or without medication. I was diagnosed when I was about 50, and questioned my doctor about it, since that was the first time anyone had called me diabetic. He replied that, by current standards, anyone with a sugar count of 100 or higher is considered Type 2 Diabetic. ( Some consider it to be 95 or over ) . That used to be called low blood sugar. My reply to him was ” So, what you’re telling me is that the whole world is Diabetic “.

Kind of like Cupcake Wars being sponsored by Weight Watchers…
February 24th, 2012
i woork for walmart the money they get for doing thing like this goes back in the store pocket

Type 2 diabetes is believed to have a strong genetic link, meaning that it tends to run in families. Several genes are being studied that may be related to the cause of type 2 diabetes. If you have any of the following type 2 diabetes risk factors, it’s important to ask your doctor about a diabetes test. With a proper diabetes diet and healthy lifestyle habits, along with diabetes medication, if necessary, you can manage your type 2 diabetes just like you manage other areas of your life. Be sure to continue seeking the latest information on type 2 diabetes as you become your own health advocate.
Other type 2 diabetes risk factors include the following:
High blood pressure
High blood triglyceride (fat) levels
Gestational diabetes or giving birth to a baby weighing more than 9 pounds
High-fat diet
High alcohol intake
Sedentary lifestyle
Obesity or being overweight
Guess I’, lucky so far…. I was born 8.5 pounds, I enjoy wine, my granny was diabetic, I like triscuits and I’m 55…
If they would have glasses of wine on the table instead of cupcakes, I’d be in there. Dr. Karen…. hehehehehe
February 24th, 2012
A little counterproductive. That cupcake is roughly 45 grams of carbohydrate, and probably 20 grams of fat. A once in a blue moon item for anyone living with diabetes. It would be a meal for some. At least it brings some awareness to diabetes…
February 26th, 2012
Dr. Oz would love this thread. (I don’t love Dr. Oz, he promotes alternative and worthless herbal junk along with his helpful stuff.)
February 27th, 2012
Careful about that “or the Cure” thing, the Komen Foundation will use donated funds to sue you. Also, this is in no way ironic. Go learn what that word means.
February 29th, 2012
Wow, how ironic.

Yeah…except you don’t get diabetes from eating sugar. Uneducated retards.
