No, it’s not 2nd hand smoke, it’s FIRST HAND SMOKE! The baby is being forced to use nicotine with his mother and will be born nicotine addicted. He will spend his first two weeks of life going cold turkey while living with smokers. Mom’s not going to sleep much. I and most of my generation, however, were born into smoking homes and we’ve overcome this difficulty mostly. I was five when my folks quit so I got the least of it. I have an older sister with delicate lungs, however.

What’s new or surprising about this? I sell beer and cigarettes to pregnant (trashy) women all the time. I find it interesting that the guys who I have working for me ages (18-25) find it the most repulsive and get really pissed off when these females make the purchase.

Some how this has become “normal” I know someone who thought they were pregnant and yet she kept smoking and drinking Mountain Dew and when she found out she was it didn’t stop. It sickens me! It isn’t even about quiting for nine months you should quit for a lifetime because it is horrible to smoke around children too after they are born. That is why when I found someone cute and found out they smoked I didn’t even talk to him. I grew up around smoke and I don’t want the same for my kids!

Although I HIGHLY disagree with her doing this, this is still America and she is entitled to do what she wants within the law. I wonder how many people on here that are getting on to her about smoking during pregnancy would have been ok with her killing her unborn child? Just an observation.

I dont think hardly any girls that smoke before they get prego quit…my mom smoke with me and my brother i was 9lbs my brother was over 10…im not sold on this small baby and smoking thing…all the girls i know who smoke while prego were told not to quit, but to cut back…and they all have 7 pound plus babys oh and my gram smoked while she was prego with twins, they were almost 7lbs apiece…and come on, nic is as addictive as a hard drug. these girls cant quit pukeing and are emotional wrecks because of hormones??? Can you see why they might just have a cig every now and then? And no i dont smoke and never have : )

Eh, Paul, I am totally Pro-Choice. I believe if a woman chooses to terminate a pregnancy that is her business. That being said, if you choose to keep a baby, you don’t just have a responsibility to take care of the baby, you have a responsibility to take care of yourself, and that means no cigs or alcohol. No it’s not easy to quit smoking, but again, it comes down to responsibility.

The people who are trying compare smoking while pregnant to getting an abortion are stupid.
If a woman smokes while pregnant, she’s risking the baby being born premature or at a low birth rate, having birth defects or having respiratory problems. An abortion terminates a pregnancy. It does not put the fetus at risk for having serious problems at birth.

For the record, many doctors will advise a smoker not to quit while pregnant, because it could terminate the pregnancy, especially if they suffer from anxiety or depression. I and all of my sisters were born to smokers, and my parents didn’t quit until the youngest of us was in high school. Get over it.

I’m curious, what is it like to be absolutely perfect? To have the right to judge? By the way, quitting smoking cold turkey CAN cause the baby to go into shock and it can kill it. Cutting way back and slowly quitting is how a pregnant woman should do it, otherwise you’re taking a huge risk.

this just makes my heart so sad. It is interesting to browse the comments because a lot of haters of this women seem to be getting “downvoted” or whatever. It is true that this is legal, but it has also been proven that smoking greatly increases the risk of a child being born prematurely, or even losing the pregnancy. In my opinion, this behavior is so irresponsible it makes me want to cry. I think what this picture really shows is how the mother is valuing her own desires over her unborn child. This is truly sickening to me. I hope her baby is born healthy, but I also worry for the childs future as irresponsible mom behavior may be a very real thing. I hope this child gets all the love, support, and education it needs to live a happy and healthy life.
