Knife Found In Birthday Cake
LEWISTON, Maine (CNN) – A father in Maine says his son’s birthday party was ruined by his local Wal-mart bakery after they found a knife inside his son’s cake.
“It’s not supposed to happen you know?” Nathan Bibeau, father who discovered the knife, says.
Four pieces into the cake, Bibeau says they found a paring knife inside his son’s cake.
“It definitely put a damper with a lot of things, and I’m pretty disappointed with Wal-Mart,” Bibeau says.
They stopped the party and called Wal-Mart right away.
“People started leaving and the family was pretty upset,” Bibeau says.
Bibeau says he bought the cake in Auburn. The Wal-Mart spokeswoman says the store is taking immediate action to make sure this doesn’t happen to any other customers. The spokeswoman also says Wal-Mart is eliminating the use of that particular knife in bakeries across the country.
The spokeswoman went on to say, “This should not have happened. We’re thankful no one was hurt and sincerely apologize to our customers for their experience. We are reaching out to the family to resolve this.”
Bibeau says Wal-Mart offered a refund and called, asking how to make this better. He says, that’s still not enough.
“We’re not ever going to get that second birthday back ever, you know?” Bibeau says.
He says he has contacted a lawyer and is considering legal action against Wal-Mart.
“Things happen, of course, but if someone is able to make a mistake like that, they shouldn’t have hired them. I’m not going to hold a grudge. I’ll still shop at Wal-Mart,” Bibeau says.

Its not like he found a half eaten dog turd in the cake.
be nice , let them buy you a crappy flat screen tv as a consolidation prize and get on with your life.
saying ““We’re not ever going to get that second birthday back ever, you know?” Bibeau says”
is bullshit
have another party. it isnt hard to do .
your child may be a great kid, but this isnt going to scar him for life, (unless you cut him real good with the knife)
and wait till the kid is 10, the novelty of birthday parties will wear off real soon

They got the wrong cake…
That one with the knife was supposed
to go to the jail for “Inmates Day”

They should ban assault paring knives!

I wondered why the cake would of tasted almost edible….. its the extra dose of aluminum

Big whoop. What did you cut the cake with? Same thing only in instead of out. And remember, Knives don’t ruin parties, people ruin parties.

Who is to say that it was the walmart employee.. The cakes come in frozen all the associate does is decorate it not bake it.

Good point, LaLD.

A lawsuit is extreme. It didn’t cause irreparable damage. It’s a money making excuse.

Next time specify “a cake with no knife.”

Riiiiiiight, ’cause it’s that particular model of paring knife that is the problem, rather than their procedures for making a cake.
I also love that this guy is considering legal action over this, while claiming that he’d still shop there. Classy. Seems the type who sees a lawsuit as a lottery win. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a mullet.

It’s not that big of a deal. And it wasn’t in the middle of the cake. It’s clearly underneath. “They stopped the party”…drama queens.

I hate that everyone has become sue happy as I call it. I agree With MEEE! the wal-mart employees only decorate the cakes. They are not baked at the local Wal-mart. It came from the the Warehouse. It could have every honestly been a mistake.
I have 4 children, This very thing has happened to me once. Some people need to let it go. No child was hurt or anything. Let Wal-mart compense you for the cake and get on with your life.

this is nathan bibeau and the story is wrong

If a knife is the worst thing you find in a cake from Walmart, consider yourself blessed. If you only want cake in your cake go to a damn local bakery.

“He says he has contacted a lawyer and is considering legal action against Wal-Mart.”
Most people who shop at Wal-Mart are litigious. They’re just waiting for a reason to call the lawyer that’s advertised on daytime television.

Walmart wants their knife back!
March 11th, 2013
so what if a knife was found in the cake..no need to make a huge deal out of it…not like it was all bloody or something? simply take a few pics for proof then remove the knife and continue with the party.and call walmart later in the evening…the guy ruined his own kids birthday by making a big deal out of nothing….if the knife was bloody or dirty then its understandable but it seems to be clean…it was probably laid on the plate that holds the cake and the cake was put ontop of it….

@nathan bibeau
What’s the truth?
March 12th, 2013
Oh, suck it up you big pussies. It’s a knife in the bottom of a cake. It’s a mistake. It’s not like someone laced the damned thing with razor blades. Cut your mouth on a blade in an apple on Halloween, then come talk to me. They just want their 5 minutes of fame.

That’s not a paring knife, that’s an ordinary table knife.
March 20th, 2013
What are they bitching about? They got a free knife, didn’t they?
March 20th, 2013
That falls under the category of “WT are you frekin kidding me!!” I think Walmart needs to review it’s bakery department and their ability to cook!

“People started leaving and the family was pretty upset,” Bibeau says.
Seriously? It’s not like that knife was used to butcher bambi. From reading this story it sounds like if you did one thing wrong to this guy he’ll sue you because he hasn’t accepted the fact he doesn’t live in a perfect world.

OMFG!! Someone may or may not have accidentally dropped this knife into the cake batter, without noticing, while preparing this insanely disgustingly overly sweet store cake! Lets completely FREAK OUT and cause our kid to have a distraught birthday, blame it on walmart and we’ll have ourselves a lawsuit. Accidents like this should NEVER happen to normal people!
Seriously though, WTF is wrong with these people? Coming from Canada, it’s people like this who give the USA a bad name. The media focuses on this kind of crap all too often and we hardly ever get to see the good stuff up here. Good enough reason to take a trip though.

Since everyone else has said the obvious ad naseum, I’ll play a different side.
WHO THE FUCK HAS A BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR A TWO-YEAR-OLD?!?!?!
The damn kid can’t even enjoy it.
They deserved to have that party ruined for being such money-wasting idiots in the first place.
March 26th, 2013
If people leave a kid’s birthday party because someone screwed up the cake, you need to find new ‘people’!
