Can we do a “Who Wears It Better?” for fake babies? Judges?….The judges have decided that even though these women think they’re real, since the babies are in fact fake babies we can consider them an “accessory” and that is good enough to do a WWIB. So they’re all yours.

people carry these babies when they can’t for whatever reason have a real one. it’s kinda like a false pregnancy in dogs. and i don’t mean that to make fun. i have known, pitt bulls mostly, to have fake pregnancies with stuffed animals. they treat them as babies. people do the same thing. it is sad. and yes, the pic to the left could be a fake baby. you can spend hundreds on these dolls and they really do look and feel real.

The baby on the left is not real, it’s called a Reborn doll. They’re made to look real. My niece had one and it really did look real but it was just a plastic baby doll.

The baby on the left has “flip flop sandals”on. No fake baby has actual toe slits its just one piece of plastic. That baby is real. The one on the right looks like that fake baby I had to use in high school for 3 days.

Maybe the one on the left has a 3 yr. old granddaughter who insisted that Gramma hold her baby doll when Gramma didn’t feel like going in Walmart and waited in the car. I would for my granddaughter. I would even act like it was real just to make people who were walking around taking pictures at walmart think I was crazy. Ha ha, just because I can.
The baby on the left looks real, but I have seen the ones parenting classes use and they look, feel, and “act” real, so it’s hard to tell with this picture.

The posting of these pictures is insensitive, even for this site. The women carrying these dolls likely could not have children of their own, so they carry and “care for” dolls like these. Having had THREE unsuccessful pregnancies of my own, I can understand the types of feelings that would lead these women, and countless others like them, to care for dolls instead. Luckily I was blessed enough to also have three successful pregnancies, and three healthy beautiful babies. Let’s show some compassion, folks.

Did you all ever stop to think maybe these people have a mental disability? There is a mentally retarded woman in my town who carries a baby doll with her everywhere she goes. She is in her late 40′s but has the mind of an 8 year old. It would be perfectly normal to see a little girl carrying a baby doll around so why is it such a horrible thing to see a grown adult handicapped woman doing it?

Every time these fake babies show up several people make the comment you did. While what you say IS true; schools usually use cheap dolls or a sack of potatoes.There are women (never men) that actually make these super realistic dolls (oops, babies) and sell them for thousands of dollars each. You are usually required to “prove your need for a baby” and promise to care for it as a real baby They do a great job making realistic looking babies but the whole industry and clients are SICK.

The baby on the left is a REAL baby. I’ve had 3 of the Reborn Dolls and even though they look real as can be there are significant features to tell real from fake. The baby on the left is NOT a Reborn Doll. SMDH

A lot of womwn get this when they have a hysterectomy (can no longer have children).my friend got one after she was treated for ovarian cancer. so yes they are an accessorie. and do look very life like thats the point.

I was the one who took the picture on the left. It’s definitely fake, I was with two friends who actually held them. That lady was there with her friend who had a fake one in a stroller. They said they make them and sell them for 500+ dollars online. They had diaper bags, a baby carrier, stroller and were buying them socks and clothes. They even went as far as kissing them and caressing their bodies as if they were real. I have other pictures… creepiest thing I’ve ever experienced.

In Florida, when a parent must take a state mandatory parenting class;
some programs require the mother to learn infant care on a fake baby.
In other words: the state deemed these people to be such HORRIBLE parents that they have to learn on dolls.

The baby on the left is a real baby. I doubt it’s even a month old.
There could be a dozen reasons why the older lady on the left is handling a fake baby. Her daughter/son could be taking a class that requires the baby be monitored at all times. Some of them will actually have a thing in them that can detect how often they’re being held and such, and thus mom/grandma may be “babysitting” for them so they could have a night with friends or some school activity. Could also have mental health issues that the doll baby may be soothing to her or a whole lot of other reasons.

There are many reasons for women to carry around dolls. While visiting someone in a nursing home once there was an elderly lady there who held a doll. I asked why and learned that she had lost a child when she was younger. That it had such an impact on her life, the poor lady never recovered from her sadness and began to keep a doll in place of the child.
Then there are parents or grandparents of little girls who sometimes hold onto dolls while they are busy. Another alternative could be that schools often hand out “living dolls” to help educate young people about the ins and outs of parenting an infant. I know there was a time or two my mother had to hold mine while I was off doing something like dishes or showering. For those who commented on who would want to have a child with a woman who is less than perfect, get over yourselves. The majority of women do not look like models, and if they do it doesn’t last a lifetime. P.S. After women have kids (for the most part) looks come later on their priority list.

For those who think the baby on the left is real, please look on the web for “reborn dolls”. They are special dolls made to look and feel like real babies. From a distance, or in a picture, they can look like a real baby. You essentially have to be able to see in person that they are not breathing/ moving to understand they are dolls. The whole purpose is for them to be life-like as possible.
Actually, if that were a real baby, I would be concerned for a newborn to be held so casually without neck support. The woman is obviously holding it in a way that makes it clear there is no danger of hurting it.

Thank you for straightening this out. I watched an hour long show of women making and selling these. The women on the show would NEVER sell online. They actually believed they were creating life and a buyer had to apply for adoption and prove worthiness to get one. None sold for under a couple thousand on this show. Creepy & sick.

Ok..not all schools give a sack of potatos or a cheap doll. I had to do it for home Ec class when I was in HS and I actually had to do it twice, the doll cried and woke you up in the middle of the night and everything, you had to have a real carseat, a real diaper bag, real clothes, you had to treat it like a real baby..you cant just leave them at home because they have sensors and timers and they know how long you leave it crying for. That is exactly what these are!

My MIL has a “reborn baby” doll that looks real. That thing has given me wicked nightmares. She is also a woman that carries hers around in Wal-Mart like it’s a real infant. Crazy…

The woman on the left is acutally somebody I know. That is what is known as a Reborn Doll and is very much fake. You people are SO rude picking on her weight and calling her mean things she is a VERY nice person and NO she does NOT have a mental disability. These “Reborn” dolls are very real looking and cost hundreds-thousands of dollars. They are hobbies for some, therapy for others. (Elderly people with alzheimers, past abuse, loss of child etc…). It takes a lot of talent and work to create these dolls. Some take them out to see how many can be fooled or, if they sell them, take them out as a form of advertising their business. It is an interesting hobby and once you understand it better, it is not seem “crazy” at all.

Okay, So I honestly don’t see anything wrong with either of these pictures. Did anyone ever stop and think Maybe the woman on the right could be holding the doll for her child or grandchild? And yes, the baby on the left is indeed fake. They’re called reborns and they are sculpted, painted, and rooted to look and feel real. There is nothing wrong the left woman, She is just simply someone who enjoys babies without the screaming and everything that comes with a real child. Reborns also have a comforting affect on people who have them, Yes it is a bit out of the ordinary But is she really doing anything wrong with bringing her fake baby that she enjoys out?
