There is nothing wrong with being proud of your race; however, I think pride is best represented by how a person acts and presents themselves to the world. If you are truly proud of your heritage, you shouldn’t feel the need to advertise it.
I happen to be from the South, and I am very proud of my heritage. I do not, however, feel the need to slap the stickers of the rebel flag on everything or wear it on a T-shirt. People who were just ignorant or truly racist have turned the symbol of the Southern flag into something tainted and ugly. It pisses me off when people assume that whites from the South are automatically racists, like it’s genetic. If you like history, you should read about the “Civil War” – it’s real causes (tariffs and state sovereignty), and the fact that many Southerners did not support slavery. Since less than 5% of the population were actually slaveholders, this put small farmers who were not slaveholders at an economic disadvantge.

That’s not a Great White Shark, you can tell by the tail fin. White sharks have more symmetrical tails. It looks more like a white tip shark or a black tip shark, maybe even a grey nurse shark. Wow… you guys have good eyes. I googled Great White Shark to look at images – and yah… that shark on his shirt totally is NOT a great white.
There’s a lot of drawn diagrams that are labeled “shark” and even “great white” that look like the shirt on the Web – but if you look at every picture of an actual Great White Shark – both parts of their tail fin are about the same size, and their pelvic and anal fins are much smaller than the ones on the shirt.
So… I think that means this shirt IS just thinly disguised racism.

White is every bit as descriptive as asian, black, middle eastern, etc. It is not racist to be proud of any heritage, even if it is a rather broad category. Throughout history most races have had periods of time where they were dominant over others. It’s not something to be proud of, but it is what it is.
To those that think all white people can all trace their heritage back to a single group are quite narrow minded. Most people are a mix of different heritages here in America.
You can be proud to be white if you want without being racist. Racists discriminate based on skin color or heritage. Just because he’s white doesn’t mean he has no right to be proud of it. If his shirt said “I hate black people” he would be a racist. It doesn’t.
Why are so many people hyper sensitive against white people. Statistically we’re not the most racist race. We currently are the majority in this country. There were times in history where white people did things that I don’t agree with. But that doesn’t mean that every white person should be ashamed to be white.
IMO, if we really want to move towards a society that is completely nondiscriminatory based on race we need to drop the focus on race. The more we highlight our differences, the harder it is to be completely equal. Separate but equal doesn’t work. Be proud of who you are, but know that the more different you are, the more room there is to believe one is better than the other. Highlighting everything we have in common brings people together.

When were you born, 1990? Everyone who’s old enough to have been KISS fans back in 1974 or so knows that all four of the original members of KISS are from NEW YORK! One of their former drummers, Eric Singer, is originally from Cleveland, OH (or some suburb of Cleveland, anyway). No members past or present from Michigan that I’m aware of, but fans from Detroit were among the most devoted early in their career and got special recognition by the band for that.
Detroit radio stations and their listeners played a huge part in the band’s rise to prominence. The song “Detroit Rock City” was the band’s way of thanking their Detroit fan base for their support in the early years.

Exactly! I always wondered why everyone except whites could be as proud as they wanted to be, but we were to be thought worthy only to feel guilt and shame. Stereotypes such as the dumb and slutty blonde, the stupid drunken hillbilly, the violent Nazi, slaveowning Southerner, etc. were pushed constantly at us and that we deserved to face job loss, jail, beatings, death, etc. for merely taking offense at the insinuation that all of us fit at least one of those stereotypes. I’ve been doing a bit of reading on the subject elsewhere since I found this picture and its comments, and the Left-wingnuts tactic of undermining unity among us by provoking petty infighting seems to be well understood, although it seems that few among even the best spokesmen for white pride are immune from being dragged into taking sides in one dispute or another. I’m glad you showed up to remind John and Steve J that we’re all on the same side here. I suppose that if veteran activists such as Dr. Duke and others can even get dragged into petty disputes on occasion, then the divisive efforts directed at us must be a lot more pervasive than we might initially guess.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of your race; however, I think pride is best represented by how a person acts and presents themselves to the world. If you are truly proud of your heritage, you shouldn’t feel the need to advertise it.
I happen to be from the South, and I am very proud of my heritage. I do not, however, feel the need to slap the stickers of the rebel flag on everything or wear it on a T-shirt. People who were just ignorant or truly racist have turned the symbol of the Southern flag into something tainted and ugly. It pisses me off when people assume that whites from the South are automatically racists, like it’s genetic. If you like history, you should read about the “Civil War” – it’s real causes (tariffs and state sovereignty), and the fact that many Southerners did not support slavery. Since less than 5% of the population were actually slaveholders, this put small farmers who were not slaveholders at an economic disadvantge.
Who knew that POWM could be so educational? All that aside, this guy’s just another douche bag and he probably fancies himself an amatuer porn stud too.

You assume that no white person would work in the fields? You are wrong. The only reason why many illegals would accept that kind of work is because most of it is paid under-the-table. I agree with most of what you said but the same goes for black, it’s a skin tone, not a race. Jamaican, Haitian, Dominican, African, Nigerian, Ethiopian, etc are races. Color pride isn’t something i’m into either, we’re all human and we all make mistakes or bad decisions. Wow… you guys have good eyes. I googled Great White Shark to look at images – and yah… that shark on his shirt totally is NOT a great white.
There’s a lot of drawn diagrams that are labeled “shark” and even “great white” that look like the shirt on the Web – but if you look at every picture of an actual Great White Shark – both parts of their tail fin are about the same size, and their pelvic and anal fins are much smaller than the ones on the shirt.
So… I think that means this shirt IS just thinly disguised racism.

To those that think all white people can all trace their heritage back to a single group are quite narrow minded. Most people are a mix of different heritages here in America.
You can be proud to be white if you want without being racist. Racists discriminate based on skin color or heritage. Just because he’s white doesn’t mean he has no right to be proud of it. If his shirt said “I hate black people” he would be a racist. It doesn’t.
Why are so many people hyper sensitive against white people. Statistically we’re not the most racist race. We currently are the majority in this country. There were times in history where white people did things that I don’t agree with. But that doesn’t mean that every white person should be ashamed to be white.
IMO, if we really want to move towards a society that is completely nondiscriminatory based on race we need to drop the focus on race. The more we highlight our differences, the harder it is to be completely equal. Separate but equal doesn’t work. Be proud of who you are, but know that the more different you are, the more room there is to believe one is better than the other. Highlighting everything we have in common brings people together.

When were you born, 1990? Everyone who’s old enough to have been KISS fans back in 1974 or so knows that all four of the original members of KISS are from NEW YORK! One of their former drummers, Eric Singer, is originally from Cleveland, OH (or some suburb of Cleveland, anyway). No members past or present from Michigan that I’m aware of, but fans from Detroit were among the most devoted early in their career and got special recognition by the band for that.
Detroit radio stations and their listeners played a huge part in the band’s rise to prominence. The song “Detroit Rock City” was the band’s way of thanking their Detroit fan base for their support in the early years.
KISS fan since 1974, and former “hair metal” musician in the 80s.
