Actually I think the whole plastic bag thing wasn’t really ever a sort of death epidemic, rather a few isolated cases in the 80’s. The resulting warnings and hysteria resulted from the outcome of the lawsuits.
Still, it can be dangerous. Unless the kid started rapidly eating it, I’m sure if the kid was in any real danger the mom (probably grandparent here) would immediately render aid. I agree though, better to teach kids not to put the bag over their heads in the first place so they don’t do it alone.
I used to play with them alone. I’d hold the bag tight against my neck and try to blow the bag all the way up. I’m still here.

Hmm, that’s just very practical. The kid gets to rebreathe some of the expired CO2, good way to get her nice and sleepy. Personally, though, I’d put a pulse oximeter on the kid, just to be safe.
But seriously, this is rather safe when done supervised. The problem is that the kids gets used to it and will think it’s OK to do it alone, and that can be potentially dangerous. That alone should be the reason not to do it on kids so young.

You people should be ashamed of yourselves. If you have children then you know that they are always doing dangerous things. It is our job to correct them. My children are always grabing the bags at the store and trying to put them on their heads. I always take them a way if they put them over their face. Sometimes when you are stressed and the child is tired and just will not quit yelling and throwing fits then when they pick something up to play with you tak advantage of the quite even if it’s only for a few minute. It’s posible that she was thinking of other things and hadn’t noticed yet that the child had the bag over her face. Surely she didn’t put it on the child’s face herself. Kids shouldn’t play with plastic bags and then you don’t have to worry about things like this.We usually go by the toys first and let my youngest get something to playwith while I get the groceries. But as to this picture the person that took it and posted it if not a relative that was with the lady and child then they really had no business posting it. The person that took the picture should have instead if they were really that concerned should have went up to them and tried to ask that the child not put the bag over her face because it is dangerous and can kill her. But in stead they just wanted to beable to start a bashing session. That shows no concern at all. If I was the lady and I had any money I would find out who started this and sue your butt.

Still, it can be dangerous. Unless the kid started rapidly eating it, I’m sure if the kid was in any real danger the mom (probably grandparent here) would immediately render aid. I agree though, better to teach kids not to put the bag over their heads in the first place so they don’t do it alone.

Hmm, that’s just very practical. The kid gets to rebreathe some of the expired CO2, good way to get her nice and sleepy. Personally, though, I’d put a pulse oximeter on the kid, just to be safe.
But seriously, this is rather safe when done supervised. The problem is that the kids gets used to it and will think it’s OK to do it alone, and that can be potentially dangerous. That alone should be the reason not to do it on kids so young.

While placing an application process in order to have children completely goes against the freedoms in the Constitution…I would still have to tend to agree. Or, at the very least, the prospective parent should undergo an aptitude or common sense evaluation. “Oh, this person thinks it’s OK to put bags over their baby’s head and leave them alone in a locked car in the middle of summer?” Application denied, here’s your forced birth control. (Because we all know the ‘honor system’ wouldn’t work.)
