It Feels Like A Midget Is Hanging From My Necklace

I’m not a mother, but I’m pretty sure there are more appropriate ways to breast feed than just letting your kid swing from your tit while you push your cart up and down the aisles looking for lampshades.

Breast feeding is a natural thing but she should have sat down some where and let the little guy eat. She keeps this up and her boobs will be hitting her knees soon!!

I get that you need to feed your kid, when you need to feed your kid. But do it with some class!! They make special shirts so that we don’t have to see all your rolls hanging out, and special slings so that the baby isn’t just dangling as you feed him/her. I’m not against breastfeeding, but come on, don’t embarass the rest of us because you have no class!!!

All 4 of my children were raised on breast milk and I’m still bf”ing my 4th and hardly a stranger to public breast feeding but, I am embarrassed by her actions. Selfish of her not to sit and allow that baby a proper feeding. Tacky too. Just because you can drop tit while walking does not mean you should. Especially in a Walmart !

A baby doesn’t have the strength to hang from either its mouth or with its arms. You can’t see her other arm. Obviously, she’s holding the baby with it.

  52. Never ceases to amaze me

I breastfed my son for 2.5 years so kudos to her for nursing hers, but I never did anything like this! I did nurse him a bit while walking around stores, but he was never just hanging there! And if I knew I was going to be nursing in public I always wore a nursing cami so people wouldn’t get a full view of my midriff – even though I am nowhere near fat.Sure, she’s probably holding him with her other arm, but he can’t be very well supported in this position.

For those of you suggesting this, I would never, ever, ever nurse my baby in a restroom. Would you eat your lunch in there?

Yes, there’s definitely some multi-tasking going on here. She’s feeding, holding the baby somehow, and pushing a fully loaded buggy, all while somehow keeping herself covered with the blanket. Good thing those pants are tight, cause they look like they’re about to fall, and then this wal-creature would be a first-place winner.

I think the child is in a sling, just not very well secured. But I’m not 100% on that.

I have no problem with someone breastfeeding in public (that’s what those things are made for) but discreetly…the shirt pulled up to her chin, not discreet.
She thought to use the blanket to cover the child, forgetting that it was the rest of her that was truly offensive.

You do not have to go to a bathroom stall to breastfeed but she is definitely showing too much and not holding the baby properly. A bench, yes, a bathroom stall, no. A sling or other carrier would be even better. Yes, that is a sleeper hanging from her cart, not another baby. She may very well be pregnant since that sleeper looks a bit small for the baby she’s breastfeeding.

There is some protocol to nursing in public.

    1. Realize that you will be very visible from the back if you hunch your shirt up, compensate by wearing something over your shirt.

    2. Baby’s comfort comes first. Use two arms or sit down.

    3. Consider a light receiving blanket over the top of baby and the shirt so that others don’t get to take photos and post your poor baby on people of walmart.

This person looks very young to me. I hope that as time goes on, she learns to look more to her children’s needs than to her own.

She is obviously feeding the baby in a sling (I use a similar one) and that is an outfit hanging from her cart. The baby is very poorly secured in the sling and having to look at her back wings is gross but there is nothing wrong with breastfeeding your baby while shopping if done properly. Restrooms are disgusting and there are LAWS in place to protect breastfeeding moms from having to feed in places like that. Judging by the blanket thats over her shoulder she was trying to be very discreet and covered but missed a bit.

I wear my baby in a sling or wrap & let him nurse, but I also have the decency to make sure he is comfy & that I have a nursing tank under my other shirt. No skin showing for me & I look (a little) slimmer than this chic. As for others… my child will NOT be fed in a bathroom (you go eat in there- gag) & he will not take a bottle so pumping is out.

As the mother of a 12 month old, I can say that not everyone who breastfeeds is so rude and inconsiderate. She should have discreetly sat somewhere and fed her baby. IF she didn’t see anywhere, she could have asked the manager for a wuiet place to sit. This is a pitiful excuse for a mother. Her shopping is more important than her baby getting fed properly? Dangling up front is Not acceptable whether breastfeeding or not. Poor child!!!.
She appears to be in a rush to spend that welfare check! Tax dollars hard at work…yeah!!

There are chairs over by the pharmacy for waiters she could have sat down there — that would have been more appropriate — at least allow the poor kid soem time to bond and give him or her a proper feeding.

Honestly, if you don’t have to time to sit down somewhere and properly let your kid breastfeed, you need to rethink some priorities.

She is wearing a sling…although the baby isn’t very well supported in it. I’ll admit, I’ve nursed my kids in a sling in stores. The big difference however was that I made sure my back and stomach were covered and I used the tail end of my sling to make sure that the other parts were covered.
I don’t think she should be crucified because of her breastfeeding, but because she isn’t covering up her back fat properly. Who wants to shop and see that?

There are numerous places to sit and quietly breastfeed a baby at Wal-Mart. There are benches at the front and back of the store. There are restrooms. And there is even a fitting room, which has a bench behind a closed door.

It doesn’t look to me like you could actually see her boob from the front; she just needs to get a better grip on him.

Also, for all you ignorant people who are still offended by breastfeeding, complaining to a manager won’t help. Wal-Mart policy forbids any manager or associate from doing anything about it. Even the evil people of Wal-Mart understand that it is a mother’s choice to breastfeed her child.

I have breastfed all 6 of my kiddos and never once been reduced to having to walk around in walmart or anywhere else feeding my babies. You know your baby gets hungry every 1 1/2-2 hours and you work around it. Don’t even leave the house until you have fed him/her and if you will be out all day fed the baby in the car before you head in the store. This is just totally unnecessary.

Kudos to her! I agree that I don’t want to see all her fat rolls, but the baby is very young. So she probably hasn’t had much time to lose the weight, and maybe she can’t afford more appropriate clothes. At least she’s feeding her baby. My friend would allow her baby to scream and cry for 30 minutes until she was able to get to her house to feed her baby in privacy, which I think is neglectful.

As a mom and breastfeeding supporter, I am kind of sad to see so many saying she should have taken her baby to feed in the bathroom. That’s more revolting, to me. Have you SEEN the WalMart bathrooms? I do agree that the fitting rooms make for a nice, quiet comfy place and I have actually fed a baby in there before.

This mom needs a better sling, or else some lessons in proper sing use. Her child is not positioned correctly or safely. If she were using the sling properly, I guarantee you would not even be able to tell that she was *gasp* using her breasts to feed a baby!

That is a disgrace! I’m a woman and a mum of an 8 month old. I also breastfed my son for the first 6 1/2 months. If my son was hungry out in public we’d find a place to sit down to nurse or go out to the car and be PROPERLY covered.
There is no excuse that she couldn’t “find” a place to sit. Most wall mart’s have a McDonald’s don’t they ? there’s PLENTY of seating in there where she could have sat down to giver her child a proper feeding.

I do believe the baby is in a sling but looks to be like it isn’t properly worn.

Sure we didn’t need to see her back, but she’s not that fat and we see more flesh from dudes in Walsmart all the time, she’s not mooning us and we see no crack which is truly upper class for Walsmart.

I agree that this extreme and what a lot of people have posted is true. If she could see herself, hopefully, she wouldn’t be walking around like this. We don’t know what her circumstances are. She may be experiencing post partum depression and not really have noticed what she looks like. Or this may have been her only opportunity to get some shopping done. I nursed three babies and since I don’t eat in a bathroom I didn’t feed mine in there either. Maybe she was too tired to think of using the benches in shoes or the dressing room. I hope today is a better day for her.

I’m not sure about other states, but all of the Wal-Marts here in Sacramento, CA. have benches around the store. She should find one and sit down so the baby can suckle in peace, (unless she’s trying to burp it at the same time by jogging it around! lol).

People leave her alone! As a mom of 2, I understand that, sometimes, time just doesn’t permit sitting down while feeding your baby. If you look under the baby’s butt, it looks like it’s in a sling and since her right hand isn’t visable, it’s safe to say she’s holding the baby with that hand. Yes, she probably needs to stop and re-position but otherwise, shes got a blanket over the baby’s head. As for complaining to a manager, in most states it’s illegal for ANYONE to tell a breastfeeding mom she can’t breastfeed in public. For those that say breastfeeding moms need to feed their babies in a bathroom, I’ll start feeding my baby in a bathroom as soon as you start eating your lunch off the toilet seat. Get over it, this is actually what boobs are made for.

Really guys? You’re going to talk about someone being fat or having back fat who obviously had a baby not that long ago? The weight doesn’t “magically” fall off the day you give birth, it can take a year. Big deal that a bit of her back is showing, she covered her child for privacy while breastfeeding. I breastfed. Yes, I have walked and fed my child at the same time. I held the baby a bit differently than that, my son was cradled the same way he would have been if I had sat down, but there is nothing wrong with walking and feeding, because 95% of the time you are sitting down doing it. I’m a little upset by the fact that this site is now making fun of breastfeeding mothers.

ok, i breastfed my daughter and i have to say this girl is a moron. First off, I always made sure to wear/buy shirts that made sure i wasn’t giving a free back fat show to the world… they make nursing tanks for a reason if you REALLY need to wear a t-shirt. next, nursing isnt just a time for feeding… its a time for bonding… where’s the bond other than the superglue she must use to keep that kid attached. infantino makes a 30 dollar sling… buy it. most walmarts have a McDs, subway or other food place… sit there… if not, go to the freakin outdoors section and sit on a piece of lawn furniture… just take a second to feed teh poor child!

Seriously? For all of you calling her welfare trash…. whether she is or not, she is feeding her child the way nature intended. No one should need to eat in a restroom, with a blanket over their head or in a car (which may be in an area with inclement weather). Seriously, Get over yourselves!

You see more skin on the beaches and sadly, on this site. Did it ever occur to you that a new mom already has enough insecurities about her body, she doesn’t need more. Leave her alone and let it go.

It looks like she is carrying the kid in black baby sling, the weight of which is pulling her shirt up. The shirt’s probably too short to begin with. She’s also clearly covering her front, and, presumably, the kid, with a blanket that is visible over her right shoulder.

She may or may not be breast feeding. Seeing her ill fitting pants and ginormous fat rolls is the worst part.

  201. baby's need breast milk, leave her alone.

First off, there is one baby and one outfit hanging from the cart. Secondly, she is not letting him hang, she is doing what all moms do, a good job, she is pushing the cart with her left arm, and holding her baby with the right arm. The baby is perfectly supported. You people need a reality check and quick. The crazy lady that put a sign “dont touch the baby” got praise for days but this woman who is feeding her baby in the only acceptable way is being ripped apart but ignorant, uneducated people who think that enfamil is good for babies. The number of babies that actually need formula is so low, but most babies get formula because mothers are too LAZY, and too stupid to breast feed. I was shocked to see so many people ridicule this poor woman, and who ever took this pic should be ashamed for taking a pic of a mother feeding her baby. She is covered and even if her back is showing WHO CARES , she is feeding her child. She made a responsible choice, the right choice. Maybe you jack asses would be satisfied if she posted a sign on her breast, “Im feeding my baby, don’t look.”

I will not ‘cover-up’ while breastfeeding my children because that is EXACTLY why so few Americans breastfeed. But I also won’t take my shirt off, or partly off and I do try to be discreet. There are places to breastfeed in any store that are not disgusting like the bathroom; an example would be the furniture department where there are chairs sat out for display. I have nursed in a Costco that way. My heroes are the men who stand up for us, like my husband who verbally attacked a man who freaked out in my OWN home when I was breastfeeding. Or a friend’s husband who said if a guy in HIS home was uncomfortable with it HE could go in the bathroom.

This may be TMI. When you’re breastfeeding a baby, the button up shirts don’t help that much. It’s more discrete to lift your shirt up from the bottom. Usually, the baby covers up your stomach. You can buy nursing shirts that have special flaps that make things more discrete, but they are expensive. This lady is a new mom. She may not have had time or money to buy new shirts. I know when I first had my babies, I had days where I didn’t get a shower until my husband came home to watch the baby. I also had to bring my husband along shopping to watch the baby so I could try on clothes. We didn’t live near family so I didn’t have much other help.

Another thing, a lot of breast fed babies will not take a pacifier or drink out of a bottle. They might if they go to daycare, but they usually won’t if mom is there.

I breast fed my daughter and if I needed to nurse while I was out shopping, I did it in the privacy of a DRESSING ROOM! I can understand not wanting to breast feed in a public restroom, but most anywhere that sells clothes has dressing rooms with a door you can lock, and usually a place to sit. And I am pretty sure that Wal-Mart, last time I checked, has dressing rooms! This is just pure laziness on the mother’s part, and the back boobs are just nasty. She needs to head directly to the baby isle and buy a nursing cover if she insists on doing this in public. Oy.

I really torn, on the one hand she is doing a good thing by nursing a hungry baby, I have seen many mom’s just let their newborns scream, and the talent involved in being able to shop and keep junior latched is advanced to say the least. I am also surprised nobody has mention the fact that she looks REALLY young. Young unfortunately means single mom in a lot of cases. This may be the only way she has to do things. I know there were times (even being married and in my later 20’s) that my colicky daughter wanted to be fed THEN when I was trying to get stuff done. She would have screamed all the way through the store for me to go where I could sit down and then I would have people staring at me thinking I was abusing my child. As for breastfeeding being bonding time. Yes it is but if you have a newborn that wants to be hooked to the breast 24/7 sometimes you can’t always sit and have that moment. Good for her for breastfeeding period. Don’t like her back fat? Don’t look. I am sure she didn’t ask someone to take a picture of her to put on the internet. The more I look at this picture the more irritated I get.

Some of you people are ridiculous! True that seeing her back is not the most plesant sight, but I bet no one would say a word if the same scene occured and the woman was thin. Furthermore, those of you who say she should go to the restroom: Do any of you plan on eating your supper in the restroom? I doubt it b/c it’s disgusting. Grow up, get a life and realize that breastfeeding, in public or private is nothing more than a baby eating his lunch!! Further more, the woman is holding the baby. It is not propped on the buggy. I am usually a big fan of this site, but this photo’s caption and some of the above comments infuriate me at how ignorant they are!!!! :(

I have to add to my earlier post after reading what these so-called “experts” on social demographics wrote.
I’m sorry but if you get pregnant and have a baby.. you have 9 MONTHS(give or take a few weeks depending on when the baby is born) to buy proper shirts so you can nurse in public. If you can’t afford in 7 to 9 months (if your breastfeeding) to buy nursing bra’s, nursing shirts with the flap in the front and some type of a sling so your baby is in a comfortable position to nurse, then maybe you should wait to have kids until you can afford to do so.

Slings(I myself still have the one i bought just a little time after my son was born) are fantastic for nursing in public because their long enough for them to lay in comfortably and extra fabric to cover yourself and they aren’t that expensive, or you can be creative go out to a fabric store, buy the fabric yourself and get the metal hoop and make a sling yourself(they are not by all means hard to make what-so-ever.)
Props for her to cover the front while she’s nursing, ill give her that much. but for fck sakes if you are going to nurse in public while your shopping, make sure that your baby is comfortable and SAFE. that baby does not look safe nursing like that. what would happen if the baby slipped?

I wonder how many of you would have an issue with this picture if it was someone skinny and perfect breastfeeding the baby. Beyond the fact that no one can be bothered to look at the picture and see the pixelization in the shirt that shows it was photo-shopped. And you didn’t look close enough to see the sleeper on the hanger hanging from the handlebar. Or the blanket she is using to cover her front. I don’t know how many of you remember how tired and how sore and how cranky and how everything is just that much harder right after you have had a baby. All you want to do is get your shopping done and go home. The next time I have to suffer through a day at the beach with one of those men strutting around with his junk half out of his speedos I will be sure to post it on here. This type of lowbrow commentary is just one more of those things that makes motherhood that much harder.

I fully support breastfeeding in public, however a woman is most comfortable doing it, and I myself have walked around in a store while nursing… however, I either had my baby in a sling or I had an undershirt that covered my back and tummy skin. Personally, I am far more self-conscious showing my post-partum belly flab than somebody seeing a strip of skin above my nipple.

So, for showing all that back skin, this does seem to be an appropriate photo for this website!

To the people that are blind or need glasses she does have a towel or blankie draped over her right shoulder covering her front along with the right arm thats supporting the baby and thats not a 2nd baby its an outfit hanging from the cart. I do agree that she should be sitting down so the baby is a little more comfertable. As far as seein her back DON’T LOOK if you don’t wanna see it same goes for her feeding if you happen to be in the store.

I don’t think there’s a 2nd baby, I think that’s an outfit. It may not be pretty, but at least she’s BF’ing. Kudos to her multi-tasking abilities, lol. I sure couldn’t do it. BTW, the baby is in a sling, not hanging on for dear life. To feed the baby she must pull the front of her shirt up, which means obviously the back will go up as well. It’s amazing that America is the ONLY country with so many issues on natural breastfeeding.

Your arms simply are not that long. And as for nursing always being bonding time, anyone who says they are bonding at 2, 4, and 6 AM every night is a liar.

I don’t know what people mean here about giving the baby a “proper” feeding… just because she nurses him while walking around doesn’t mean she always feeds him this way! If he nurses very frequently, perhaps this is the only way she can get some shopping done, and she very likely sits down to nurse him at other times. The baby could be sleeping for all we know… my babies would fall asleep while latched on, and then I would carry them around like that (minus mt back showing)… better than them screaming because I woke them up by unlatching them!

I am currently breastfeeding my 3-month-old daughter and I breastfed my 18 month old son until I got pregnant again. I would like to explain the distinction between something being “shameful” and something being “private”. I am not ashamed of my brestfeeding, in fact I am proud and happy about it, but it is still PRIVATE. Out of respect for my baby, my body, and the people around me, I find a quiet place **Not a bathroom* but a corner somewhere and I lightly cover the baby and myself. I don’t do this out of shame but out of modesty and respect. Breastfeeding is indeed natural and beautiful. It is also private!!!

Oy, seriously, she’s using the handle of the cart to hold up her arm that is cradling the baby. Babies get heavy after awhile.

And she is even using a blanket for all you prudes.

Leave the fucking mom alone. Its not like there is anywhere in most Wal-marts to sit down (and ewww to nursing in a Walmart bathroom). And even if she did use the bathroom she’d have to leave her cart unattended. Not to mention normal human babies nurse can nurse 20+ times a day at that age. She probably just wants to get done shopping and get the fuck outta there.

    saphyreslady,

Good luck with that; FYI in many states it is against the law to harass a breastfeeding mother, or to ask her to move or cover up (this mom IS using a blanket however). Its punishable by a fine.

In other states which have written in to some law that a mom has the right to nurse “anywhere mom and baby are permitted to be” (ie not in a bar) you can actually be charged under numerous gender-based discrimination laws which have far greater legal penalties than a small fine.

Nobody would have thought anything about this had she been wearing proper clothing. I can see that the baby is probably in a sling of some sort. Her shirt is totally inappropriate; she should have a button down or cardigan to prevent all her skin from showing. This is just yucky.

there is nothing wrong with nursing in public. no woman should ever have to go to her car or the bathroom to nurse. this lady isn’t exposing anything except a little back fat. she’s even got a blanket to cover her side boob. give her a break! I have nursed in kmart before but I usually try to stay away from camera’s. also, I don’t have back fat. but really at least she’s breastfeeding. better than all the chemicals and crap that goes into formula!

Ok, I know the kid has to eat BUT why doesn’t she go in one of the rocking chairs in the baby section. She could even sit on a bicycle in the kids section…or on a lawnmower….or office chair…

Good for her! Of course, I would have recommended a nursing tank for her so she could cover up her back. But there is nothing wrong with her feeding her child when her child is hungry. Sometimes babies feel the need to nurse at times when we are doing other things. Sure, she could have taken a seat on a bench (Not in the bathroom, yuck!), but maybe she was in a hurry. We don’t know the circumstance. I still agree that she should have planned a bit better and dressed in layers.

Why is it that the photos of fat people exposing their flesh seem to get the most action on this site?
