That’s what you get for cheating on Elin! Caged up like an animal….huh, what’s that? A different “Tiger”? Oh, well enjoy your Frosted Flakes then.

this is really the most sad picture i think i’ve ever seen. it’s right up there with the starving children in africa.
can you get the license plate and forward the picture to the ASPCA please? this is definitely illegal. i’m a founding member of the ASPCA and i have “important” email addresses for them. i’d send you a contact if you’d turn this picture over to them. email me please. this must stop. this tiger can’t be properly taken care of. it pains me.

Second, whomever has this tiger has permits, licences, vet certificates, and is probably transporting the tiger from one facility to the other, not out for a joy ride.
Third, walmart is open 24 hours, the person transporting this tiger could be going in at 3 or 4 in the morning to get somthing to eat or going to the bathroom (unlike in New York where they just do it in the parking lot behind their camper) while transporting the animal.
Fourth, there is no diffrent restrictions on transporting a tiger as there is transporting a poodle! The animal must be secured, given suffecient food and water, and allowed freedom of movement, or excercized once every day for at least an hour. I dont know about you, but I can get from Boston Massachusetts, to Jacksonville Florida in 24 hours.

Since this picture originally includes the license plate of this shit kicker, someone should report the plates to the authorities and they can take action about this. Please, this is awful.

People of Walmart fans should all be as vapid and thoughtless as I am, content to watch other people’s lives and experiences unfold on the internet and on TV without regard to their impact on your own lives or on the greater world around you.

They are rescued from black market trash that want to kill them and make rugs. Some cant be put back in the wild. This man provides for this animal and saved it from someone that wouldn’t.

I don’t care how many permits the guy has to have a tiger in the back of his truck, it is a wild animal that should be on a preserve at best or a zoo at least.
And please check this out, there’s a tiger being kept at a truckstop in the states that should be relocated. I realise that the size of the enclosure is decent, but there is NOW WAY that all the diesel truck fumes and taunting by various morons can be good for the tiger. The web site for the truckstop tiger claims that more cubs have been produced by ‘Tony’ than in any zoo in the U.S. but as far as I know it is illegal to breed captured wild animals unless you have a license to do so for reasons of helping an endangered animal.
Yes this is an endangered animal, but it also wouldn’t be so if people would stop f**king hunting exotic animals for the sheer perverse excitement of having a dead lion/tiger/bear (oh my!) in their living rooms.

I didn’t know so many PETA members frequented this website. While I would not agree with taking your tiger to Wal-Mart, If someone has enough time, money and land to own a tiger, or any other animal, then they should be able to, as long as they follow the rules of owning such an animal.
Does that mean someone should be able to keep a tiger in an apartment? No. But someone shouldn’t be able to have a horse in their apartment either. There are guidelines and procedures one must go through to own large exotic animals.
People’s “tame” dogs get loose and MAUL people every single day. Around 30 people are killed by them each year. Many attacks are from the “family” dog. Guess we better ban pet dogs now. If house cats were as large as tigers, would cats then be considered wild, dangerous animals that no one should own ever when it is mainly their size that makes them dangerous? Cats can be unpredictable too, and many people do go to the hospital due to scratches/bites from their pet cats.
What about horses? No one needs a pet horse, or any pet for that matter, and one kick can kill a person. Do we ban horses? wouldn’t it be better if they were all running free like the wild horses in the U.S. which are actually just feral animals?
As for dogs, don’t you feel sad seeing those “slaves” on the end of leashes, only being allowed to go were the human allows it to, and being forced to live in backyards instead of roaming free like their wild brethren, the wolf? They are not so far from the wolf either, as they go feral and form packs with other dogs when not socialized with humans. Would it not be better to stop breeding dogs altogether so they can stop being locked up and abused? Millions of them are killed every day in shelters, way more than any exotic animal.
Tigers kept as pets are bred in captivity just like dogs and cats. They cannot return to the wild; they would die. Quite a few people own large exotic cats in the U.S., yet you don’t hear about people getting mauled on the news by them all day, because it is uncommon.
People are so hypocritical. A tiger isn’t anymore magical or noble than a dog, fish, rat or parakeet. Stop listening to PETA BS about how every exotic pet is abused. Those same people want ALL pets eradicated and believe even breeding dogs as pets is equal to slavery.

“This is perfectly legal. If it bothers you so much then please do something about it. Send letters to your law makers to ban this sort of thing, find out where these animals are kept and protest or something. It’s completely cruel, and I don’t see any difference in this and the guy who had the goat in the back of his truck (but I know that’s just me). Clearly this tiger is NOT going to a sanctuary. There is no way anyone who gave a crap about this animal would transport it in this manner. It’s going to some small penis man’s backyard to impress the ladies. And just because there are regulations for animal welfare does not mean it’s carried through. People who own exotic animals do not love them, they are selfish, delusional, ignorant creeps. This young tiger looks sedated.”
Exotic animal owners don’t love their pets? So you’re saying the millions of people who own parrots, fish, ferrets, gerbils, hamsters, tarantulas, scorptions, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, snakes and other reptiles do not love them?
The guide lines to own large exotics in many cases are stricter than that to own a “domesticated” animal, even though the domesticated animal would enjoy the extra care just as much! In Oregon you need to have countless hours of hands on experience, a large zoo-like enclosure, insurance, and you need to have a wildlife vet inspect where the animal will be kept.
How is that bad? Why is it wrong for someone to turn their private property into a tiger habitat, but some old bat can go buy 50 cats and legally keep them locked up in her house all day as long as she feeds them and scoops their poop? Do you think dogs and cats enjoy being confined more than exotic pets do?
Every day when I go for a walk I see people’s dogs wanting to get out of the house or yard – they’re running up and down the fence, wagging their tails and wanting out to play or scratching at the windows. Why is this not seen as “cruel”, yet having a tiger behind a fence, even if it is content, is? Would it be all right if breeders of tigers just deform them to reduce the resemblance to wild tigers?
Dogs and cats are the most abused pets, yet no one wants to seem to ban them (besides Animal Rights groups) to “protect them from abuse.” So basically its all right to abuse a dog or house cat, but not a tiger?

I don’t get some of you people. It is not okay to own a tiger. I do not think this is some sort of rescued tiger going to a sanctuary. The truck is unmarked and there is nobody in it. I am sure there are guidelines for leaving a tiger in a truck in the wal mart parking lot. There are those of you who think owning a tiger is wonderful and everyone should, oh and dont forget “it is legal, you can own a tiger if you want to” but i dont think that includes taking the tiger to the wal mart like some goober-hillbilly. and what is up with parking next to the cart drop off. If you chose to live like a freak and share you life with a tiger, a goat and three bears that is your business but do not impose on the rest of us. I do not feel comfortable walking by a tiger, and most ppl would agree, I feel this is just an accident waiting to happen. ANYONE WHO OWNS A TIGER AS A “PET” DESERVES TO HAVE THEIR FACE EATEN OFF! just like that lady and the chimp.

I have met this guy at an exotic animal show in Greenville. His animals looked healthy and well taken care of. The cage is a transport container, not where the cat lives. I haven’t seen his set-up at home, but judging by the health of the animal it is adequate. If he can provide the food, housing and security to keep the animal responsibly, I say more power to him. Also, that cage on the back of the truck was not cheap to construct. Obviously he has the money to invest into the animals welfare.
Though it looks like the animal is in walmart parking lot unattended, my guess is that he was there the entire time. He might have even just pulled in there to take the picture to submit to this site.
I really think that if a person is willing to invest the time and money to keep an animal safely and responsibly then it is none of the governments business what they keep. Passing a law against it will only drive it underground, prevent responsible keepers from owning the animals, and the people who are willing to break the law will keep them anyway. The right thing to do is to pass a law making irresponsible keeping, shoddy caging, allowing an animal to escape, and endangering others a felony. That way a person with the training and ability to provide for an animals welfare can keep the animal and some drug dealer who gets a cobra to protect his stash can be imprisoned.
That said, I’m going to go now. I have to go clean water dishes in my rattlesnake enclosures

@Mackerel
That is EXACTLY right. Most people should not be allowed to have children, let alone a dog or cat, let alone a pet ROCK. Yet you think people should keep a tiger? The general public is a disgrace to humanity. People who own exotic animals do not love them because they go to great lengths to make sure someone takes them from their freedom so that they can put them in a cage or tank. That’s not love. That is self importance and it’s a thrill to them to own it. And like I said, there ARE these rules and laws and regulations…but not many people do it by the rules. There are countless stories of these exotic animal scenerios going wrong. And I hope you realise that there is a world outside Oregon. Cool, they have “guide lines”…that’s re-assuring. Also it’s not your call to assume that these animals are “content” with how they are living. If people inherently knew how to treat other living things, and actually did , there wouldn’t be laws needed.

Common domesticated animals such as dogs, cats, cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, and geese have been domesticated for approximately 5,000 – 17,000 years. See this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestication#Approximate_dates_and_locations_of_original_domestication
Domesticated animals are used to humans and rely on us for food, shelter, and sometimes companionship. Any person who owns one or more of these animals is responsible for their stewardship, that is, proper care of the animal.
Most non-domesticated animals cannot be properly cared for by ordinary folk. Their physical and other needs are much different than those of domestic animals. They are stressed by contact with humans. In my mind, no regular person should own these animals because thay simply cannot take proper care of them. That is not to say that you shouldn’t own a snake or a tarantula…they are small and fairly easy to handle even as adults. But a tiger, come on! I just hope he is being transported to a nearby sanctuary or zoo.
I’m pro-animal, and anti-PETA.

i agree it doesn’t make sense to be at walmart, but from the looks of the cage, it looks like it very well could be a legit transport from or to one of the preserves. there is also the Alligator Adventure in Myrtle Beach, and sometimes the tigers are at Barefoot Landing, taking pics with people for donations to the tiger rescue. PoW should at least contact authorities to make SURE it is legit, or if it is abused or not well cared for. I live about an hour from MB so i have seen the tigers at Barefoot Landing and Alligator Adventure sometimes too.

I live in South Carolina, and he’s actually a friend of my uncles. He milks them and whatnot. My dad even caught one that was in our yard when my sister and I were younger, and gave it to him because he didn’t want to kill it. ^-^

I have actuall met the man who owns this tiger. He was at a McDonald’s that I went to. I talked to him about her, because I used to live in the Blue Ridge Moutains and there was a guy up there that had a tiger. This guy said that he has a special license to have wild, dangerous animals. He actually had an offer to for this tiger to be the Clemson mascot, but the tiger (I believe it’s a she) wasn’t very friendly. She freaked out when she saw a kid with crutches, she doens’t understand things that she’s not used to. But she is absolutly breathtaking up close. Just a little odd seeing her in the back up of a pick up at Mickey D’s, or Walmart in this case.

As for the rude comments about the Truck… Let’s break it down just a little. The truck was $4,800 not counting the $1,000 cage which also doesn’t include Tags, Insurance, and Permits so thats another $2,000 a year for 11 years which now brings us to medical, and food which is around $10,800 each, and every year so think about these totals, and tell me that I don’t love my Big Cat is just stupid. Most people don’t spend this kind of money on family much less a pet. Most run out buy a dog, and after the new wears off they buy a $5.00 chain sticking the pet outside, but back to my Tiger she is like my own family, and I would protect her at all cost keep this in mind. People are so fast to post a Negative Comment without knowing any history just off of a picture. Let’s talk about this picture that has everyone upset. Gwen is in the back of the truck because we were cleaning out her main cage which sometimes can take hours, but also she loves to ride – yes just like some dogs she will jump in the truck in like 15 seconds wanting to ride around ofcourse lots more care is needed for her, but she enjoys it. She treats me 100% better when we go riding maybe just the fact of smelling new smells hearing new sounds, or just meeting new people she ofcourse is a wild, and dangerous animal which deserves, and demands respect. Just try to remember people that I have had the chance of a lifetime to become friends with such a Beautiful Animal not to show her off, but to love her until she dies. Keep in mind one last thing a Wild Tiger lives maybe 8 to 12 years, but in when kept Captivity they live 30 to 35 years.. Well just a thought for you guys to consider before posting such negative comments on something you have no clue about, and trust me if I had a chance to do it over again I think I would rather have my $138,000 back…
Well I think I did my best to make a fair comment, and maybe to help others understand, but you will have those that don’t or choose not too.

Let’s break this image down to its bear facts:
Location: Walmart parking lot
Transport: Truck with cage with openings large enough to stick an adult finger through (2 or more child sized fingers)
Accommodations for tiger: cage, bare truck bed (ie: no padding of any kind, even cat carriers strongly recommend padding the bottom with a towel and this is a TRUCK which tends to get a lot of shock)
Supervision: None visible
Precautions taken to create a perimeter: None visible
Signs warning of potential danger: None visible
Travel Permits: None visible, and they would be posted on the back end btw.
Concluding remarks: If this cat was on its way to a cat reserve it would not be in a truck that does little to protect the tiger or the public in the case of an unplanned stop. As mentioned several times, the likelihood of something horrific happening to the tiger (people sticking things at it, taunting it, banging on the cage, etc) or to people (curious people getting too close and getting their clothing snagged, nipped by the long claws through holes, etc) is extremely high. And here is another fact: I would never, never, never leave my cat in a cage in the back of my truck all alone for any reason. Never mind something that is not adapted for urban life. As for all the exotic pet lovers who honestly respect their animals and understand that large animals are meant for the wild and so adapt their homes: God bless you, I disagree with you in your choice of “pet” but at least you’re doing something right by your animal. This is not right. Nor is keeping a tiger like Tony the Gas Station Tiger right. It’s sick.

is it possible that its night(which is what it looks like) so he might have been driving a while and stopped to go to the bathroom and get something to keep him going? and since its night, he wasn’t worried about a child poking it?
and maybe he’s traveling at night to so it’d be more likely to sleep most of the way?

Sorry, but anyone who would drive to WM with their tiger in the pickup truck open cage, looking exhausted and miserable, is probably not someone who should be licensed to keep large wild animals. I know he posted a long response here (poor guy sounds pretty delusional) but his claim that he is riding around with the tiger “because her main cage was being cleaned, which takes hours” says about all I need to hear. What, is this a once a month break while the pee and poop is hosed out? Come on, get the poor animal to a real, qualified sanctuary or admit you are not able to do a good job and give her a needle full of sodium pentobarbitol, but don’t act like she’s a domesticated hound dog!

Webmaster: If possible, please discern the license plate number and the state of issuance from this vehicle and then contact authorities in that jurisdiction. Alternately, you may contact the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA; they’re on the web). There’s clear indication of possible abuse or neglect, and harboring a wild animal such as this is a criminal act that must be punished by the law.
Thank you for your help protecting those animals who cannot protect themselves from ill-intentioned humans.

If this guy is legit and has a great inclosure for his tiger, why is the tiger sitting in parking lots all over town? Burger King, McDonald’s, gas station? I do not belive it is because the tiger “likes riding in the truck”. Sounds to me like the owner likes looking like a bad-ass. Put your machismo back in your pants and leave your tiger at home when you go to the store.

Come on now, i know the man who owns this Tiger, her name is Gwen!
She’s precious!!! he had man more, he had a Panther, Lion etc. but the state would not let him keep them all. Gwen rides around everywhere with him. She’s been on the news a few times. She is well taken care of, and NO she does not live in that cage. and she DOES love to ride. She’s just like a lap dog, well she thinks she is. he never leaves her unattented. even if he was in Wal-mart, there was someone there with her. She never tries to escape etc, but there is always someone there. So all of you people who think that he’s trying to be a “bad-ass”, HA you shoulda been to his house when he had all the other cats. He just honestly loves large animals. He’s a very nice guy, and actually works at Advanced Auto. so..you people are so quick to judge someone just because they have a huge tiger…. ridiculous. It is legal, and yes the state has heard numerous complaints on him because of people like yall, you think the cat lives in the truck etc. but man, does everyone feel dumb when they actually learn that he takes better care of Gwen than most of you take care of your children. Go figure…

@Summer:
I don’t care if it’s legal. I don’t care if he takes good care of it.
It’s still not right. Wild animals like this just aren’t meant to be kept in cages as pets.
Maybe the tiger is happy (although I honestly doubt that), but if he really cares for it as much as you say he does, it would be free in its natural habitat.
Poor thing. People like this disgust me. And to think we share the world with them…

Poor baby!! That isn’t right. Actully, it is sickening. That person needs to be sent to prison for a long while. Don’t y’all think?
February 8th, 2010
Okay so this guy has a permit and stuff and takes good care of the tiger but that does not answer the question, Why did they park a “Tiger” next to the cart drop off……….that is the worst place they could have chosen. you should not impose you freak behavior you call a lifestyle on the rest of us.

I’ve actually seen this poor animal. The truck has stickers all over it to stay back, which probably releases the owner from liability. There are several people in our area that keep tigers and pumas as pets. This sickens me.

I would like to give this person the benefit of the doubt but there is none.
I didn’t read all the comments here but the person from the big cat rescue place can attest, you DON’T transport a big cat in the back of a freaking pickup. Hasn’t anyone ever watched Animal Planet?
I am a total, solid, never ending animal lover.
This person shouldn’t be shot. That would be too quick.
Like the a$$h0le$ who abuse their dogs, cats and ever other animal that has to endure, he/she needs to be locked up in the cage. Sit in their own crap and piss. Go days without water and food. Weeks without any companionship from their own kind. Then and only then should they be prosecuted to the fullest. Unless and until people like this are publicly prosecuted, for all to see, massive fines and forbidden to EVER own any life form larger than a germ will it ever stop.
The shocker is, most likely, many people just walked by this magnificent animal and did nothing.
Anyone recall that dog over in Europe or somewhere. The one in the art exhibit that was chained up and allowed starve to death in a public art exhibition?
If I were to see this, I would have ASPCA, Humane Society, PETA and anyone else there as fast as I could.
The sad thing is the previous poster is correct, under certain conditions and with certain permits the most thoughtless jerks are allowed to have exotic animals.
Governments suck. Laws suck and people suck.
