Lack Of Options

I would like to see some of the other options that you disregarded when narrowing your choices down to these two gems. Was “winning the lottery” and “finding a sugar momma” too high of bars for you to set for yourself?

It’s not my white suburban mocoa lata drinking ass’ fault that these low income people choose to feel sorry for themselves, and choose to deal drugs and end up worthless. Why should I help someone that would rather rob me than help me? THEY NEED TO GET OFF THEIR LAZY ASSES AND DO SOMETHING FOR THEMSELVES, AND NOT WAIT FOR OBAMA TO BAIL THEM OUT. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Take responsibility for your own life and make something of it.

there are also plenty of people that have come from inner city poverty and worse that rose above it to accomplish great things. they did this by hard work and not taking the easy way out. there are many, many more that rose above it and only accomplished average things such as holding down a legal job and raising a responsible family.
you are part of the problem….as long as people like you make excuses for people to be lazy, uneducated, and unmotivated; they will.

I understand your passion, but before you talk about the system, maybe we need to take a look at these parents who basically suck the hope out of their own kids?
And like Will.I.Am said: The public library is FREE. Anyone can go to the public library. Shit, even BUMS go to the public library, which means homeless people actually display a somewhat higher level of education and understanding. Well, assuming they actually read something when their there and not sleeping on a bench.
You start with the parents though… once you get them on board and straightened out, then let me know and I’ll help.

*Oliver Cromwell in his invasion of Ireland after creating a concentration camp out of Belfast shipped great numbers of Men woman and children to Caribbean islands to raise sugar and tobacco. Later they were forced to marry the new slaves from Africa. (One of the reasons you end up with Blacks whose name ends in O’neal)

For the dozens of you who don’t understand this….
“As an official Algierz artist, the brand [Lil C] has released an official t-shirt, “2 Choices: Either Sell This Here or Wreck These Beats” which portrays the 2 Choices. 1 Choice, 2 Options. Many face the same situation in which a choice has to be made between 2 seemingly impossible options to get out of the hood… sell dope or pursue a rap career.”

I’m reading all this racist crap over a shirt that we don’t even know who was wearing it. because it’s about drugs and music you assume it’s some low income inner-city kid?
WAYYYYY back in the day I went to the whitest of white rich schools in California. Trust me, more white kids wore this crap than anyone else.
I can’t judge a person based on a shirt. We don’t know if its a male or female, age or what the ethnicity is. It’s just a stupid shirt that someone thought was funny.
Move on people….nothing to see here.

Those that sniff that this is “probably” a black person must be unfamiliar with Eminem and his “influence”.
And people. Come on. “Ghetto” (meaning the style and attitude, not the projects) really has no color. And you know it.

I pretty sure his hoody is a nod to the stereotype that the only way a black man can get rich in this country is by dealing or rapping. Hard work doesn’t always get you out of poverty (same goes with drugs and rapping) but drugs and rapping are a lot easier to do than stay in school while you go through shit at home, and other major distractions. Now I know nothing about this dude, and I’ve never been poor, but I just wanted to add my two cents.

I didn’t get this at first either, because (1) I didn’t understand the text of the second option and (2) I really had no idea what the drawing over the text was intended to be.
The first “picture” is some drug substance; the second is a microphone (at least I think it’s a microphone–it is very poorly rendered). “Wreck these beats” translates into “become proficient at musical entertainment” with the image of the microphone suggesting a vocalist and the lingo of the text suggesting hip-hop/rap music. The message of the shirt is, in this person’s environment (or the perceived street-hip environment they are trying to impress somebody with) one can either aspire to be a drug dealer or an entertainer.

To “Upset Waitress” – you opened yourself up for it, you and all your “photoshopping expertise”. “Pretty” is a matter of personal taste, and just so you don’t make the same mistake next time, it would be my “too lazy to cook fat face”, not “to lazy. . .”. You’ll get my money if you provide me with good service and by being personable–why is it I’m thinking you might be lacking the latter??? And where exactly do you want me to shove it?? For the record, I wasn’t dissing all waitresses, only you. I used to be a waitress, and for the most part it’s a pretty thankless job.

Personally I don’t care what color this person is. The hoodie is about retarded even if it is from a group. Actually that makes it worse. The fact that so many artists are legitimizing the option of selling drugs as if the options of, oh I don’t know, go to school, work hard, if needed use the government assistance, Military, etc to get out of the situation doesn’t exist. I may not have had all the same problems that some of today’s youths have but I wasn’t handed everything either. If I can join the military to get outta my crap hole of a town, work full time while putting myself through school and end up with a descent job then so can everyone else with half a brain. Stop blaming everyone else and do something to fix your own life instead of taking the quick/easy route IE: Drugs.

Ummm…. Why are people so freakin judgemental?! That’s what’s wrong with America. SO WHAT the guy sells drugs. Half the people that commented probably tried some type of drug once in their life… Who sold it to you?!?! A DAMN D-BOY! Someones gotta do the job. You don’t know people’s pasts… I’m not makin excused what-so-ever. But truth be told some inner cities don’t have the resources they have other places to help these people see what options they have. He probably didn’t have a positive role model in his life. We have to look at the whole picture not just one piece of it.
BTW… I have a job and make legal money. I made something of myself, I’ve never had anything handed to me… but I was fortunate enough to have someone who cared enough to show me the right path!

The shirt doesn’t imply selling drugs as positive, just a choice you can make – you can be stuck somewhere on the street corner selling dope or you can do something positive by rocking out with the beats [music] and being something more than just a thug.
Maybe it is a crude way to spell out a message, but it is inspirational in its own strange way – it’s not about selling drugs, but what you can do in spite of the option of doing so [or other things that may not be positive].

Good choice of words since wrecked is precisely what rap has done to the word music. HAH, those beats wreck my ears while giving them a rash. How about learning to actually carry a tune with vocals or play a musical instrument? Oh, I’m sorry, now I’ve set the options bar too high.

Sure, there are many reasons why a person might see these two options but that’s no excuse. I mean, look at pursuit of happiness. That’s based on a true story. Homeless man turned stock broker millionaire. Sure it’s rare, but it’s not impossible to be driven for something more than just a “rapper”.
Regardless of their situation, this is a bad shirt, and a bad message.

I don’t think the hoodie is trying to say that rapping or selling drugs are the only options in his life. I am pretty sure it is a pro-legalization of pot hoodie. As in, we (as a society) have to sell marijuana here (in this country), or we (as a society) will not have beats. ie. rap music would go away without pot. Personally, I would be just fine if all rap music went away, so that seems a pretty lame threat.

He may as well be wearing a shirt that says ‘Arrest Me’. He probably has security following him around the store.

That is my issue about where rap has gone. Used to be silly but now its all about thug life so kids think they can sell crack while writing rap songs about it thinking they will get rich from their story which usually the only thing different is the city they live in.
