“You will go to sleep or I will put you to sleep.” Once again, when your kid is big enough to dunk a basketball, perhaps they are a little too old to be taking naps in a doggy bed at Walmart.

@ snap n. That’s not the problem here, this child is way too old to take naps in stores and in a shopping cart. Who knows if she’s drooling or what germs have been in that cart or dog bed.

Too often, people drag their kids to the store when they are sick or otherwise
should be at home. Have you ever gone into Wal-Mart after 9 or 10 PM?
People have toddlers and school age children in the store, the whole little family on a shopping trip. Whatever happened to putting your kids to bed at
a descent hour so that they can get up and go to school the next morning.
There is no self-discipline or order to peoples lives any more. Teachers complain about kids coming to school tired and unable to perform schoolwork.
There is nothing at Wal-Mart that is so important that it can’t wait. Why can’t
“stay at home moms” do their shopping while their kids are in school? Maybe they are too busy sleeping until noon and smoking meth while their little ones raise themselves. This country is screwed.

@Jag — As a single mom, sometimes (during the day) I’ve had to take a sick child to the store to fill a prescription and/or pick up “sick kid supplies” (tissues, ginger ale, applesauce). She’s tired, cranky, and miserable for the 45 minutes we have to wait for the pharmacy. I am not above letting her crawl in the back of a cart and rest. Though I do agree with a lot of what you said, sometimes the picture doesn’t tell the whole story.

@Kelly – I understand what you are saying. Picking up a prescription and some groceries is one thing, but I have seen 7-9 year olds out on a school night in Wal-Mart at 11pm with mom and dad. Come on, what the hell is wrong with these people. I am not particularly ragging on this pic, just the people I see that shouldn’t be parents. I have also stopped at the store on the way home from the doctor’s office with my sick children to pick up a few needed items and have had my kids lay in the cart as well. I have never drug my kids out late at night to cruise the aisles of Wal-Mart and socialize with the local idiots as I have witnessed where I live. If I am in Wal-Mart late at night, it is because I have just closed my business for the night and need something for my business when I open early the next morning.

Right on Shayann. Parents of disabled kids get so tired of being judged. My 19 yr old is developmentally 4 years old. I’ve been getting stared at and glared at since she was two years old. There is a huge problem for parents who need to go to the store and cannot get childcare because their child is disabled. Thank you Kelly, a picture doesn’t tell the whole story.
